4.0 out of 5 stars Way ahead of it's time...
collision is one ofthose early '90s metal acts showcased rarely on headbanger's ball. i used to tape the shows and watch the videos constantly, and one of my favorite songs was "chains" by collision. I searched everywhere for cd's by these guys, and first came across "coarse", their second full length album, and after listening to it, i loved it. with it's odd timed...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as interesting as their debut
1995's Coarse was the second album from Collision, whose debut featured an interesting mix of alternative rock, funk and hair metal. By 1995 though, alternative was the dominant form of rock, so this is a much more straightforward alternative rock album.

collision is one ofthose early '90s metal acts showcased rarely on headbanger's ball. i used to tape the shows and watch the videos constantly, and one of my favorite songs was "chains" by collision. I searched everywhere for cd's by these guys, and first came across "coarse", their second full length album, and after listening to it, i loved it. with it's odd timed riffs, and nik's high pitched vocals, these guys have one of the most unique sounds ever in metal. it's almost impossible to compare them to anyone else. if you like intelligent and jammin metal, then collision is definately a band to check out. Best songs on this disc are by far "the wheel" and "get up or get hurt", as well as "body check" These guys all out rawk!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Kept 90's Hard Rock Secret, February 15, 2005
This review is from: Coarse (Audio CD)
I first heard these guys on "Chains" from their first album aired on a short lived L.A. metal station. Fell in love immediately. Stumbled onto this 2nd album "Coarse" at a used CD store in the valley. My favorite tracks are "The Wheel", "Real", "Body Check" and "Citizen". In the middle of the song "Wrestle Me Down", if you crank your stereo LOUD, you can hear Nik spark a joint! I'm hyper-critical, so believe me when I tell you this is a cerebral neo-classic hard rock gem. So is the 1st one...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as interesting as their debut, July 23, 2010
This review is from: Coarse (Audio CD)
1995's Coarse was the second album from Collision, whose debut featured an interesting mix of alternative rock, funk and hair metal. By 1995 though, alternative was the dominant form of rock, so this is a much more straightforward alternative rock album.

To my ears, Coarse is nowhere near as interesting as the debut Collision album. It sounds like every other alternative rock album released in 1995. "Get Up or Get Hurt" is a funky track that shows a pulse, but the rest of the album is like Soundgarden lite, buried in fuzzy guitars and with the vocalist imitating Chris Cornell this time instead of Axl Rose. It also hurts that the sound quality is so dreadful. You need nearly twice the volume just to hear this disc as you would any other CD from that era.

Collision is still a band that's worth hearing, but I'd recommend the more interesting and innovative debut album over Coarse, unless you're just that much into the 90's alternative rock sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD Nobody knows about, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Coarse (Audio CD)
"Coarse" was a freebe after I bought a number of other cd's from a mail order company. It sat on my table for months before I actually gave it a listen. First off, I haven't heard anything resembling their sound. The off beats and vocal sound knocked me off my azz. It's as solid cd that's in my rotation currently. My favorite "Here Now" tells a story of appreciating today and not dwelling on past failures. Absolutely a great song, but it's surrounded by the like.
