Hit The Lights Missed the Mark, Shoul'dve Waited for a Full-Length Album,
By
This review is from: Coast To Coast (MP3 Download)
Hit The Lights is a great up-and-coming band who are finally getting some of the exposure that they deserve, but I think they may have missed the mark with what they were trying to do by releasing Coast to Coast. Seeing as they are in between albums, they decided to put out this mini-disc to give their fans something to hold them over. For me, this failed. I love this band, but Coast to Coast just didn't hit the spot for me. The original songs, Coast to Coast and Pulse, were expertly crafted and I definitely think they are two of the band's best, but the two cover songs were epic failures to me. The entire purpose of covering a song is to pay homage to the band and turn the song into something of their own. To me, the covers of Drive Onto Me by Elliott and Snowbird and Townies by Further Seems Forever were just copies of the original song. Further Seems Forever, when they had Chris Carraba, was such a great band, and if you have the guts to cover them, you'd better go all out. Hit The Lights did not. The band failed to turn them into something original with a twist. These songs are the only reason I dock the CD some credibility. The final two songs on the disc are acoustic versions of the band's original songs. These two songs, Tell Me Where You Are and a medley of Make A Run For It and The Call Out, work perfectly as acoustic tracks. The first of the two has a beautiful sound to it, and the voice of Jaime Lacey adds the perfect finishing touch. Make A Run For It and The Call Out work and mesh together so wonderfully and it makes for a great end to the CD. Personally, I say skip purchasing this CD as a whole and just get the 4 non-cover songs. That's what I wish I would've done.

coast to coast is an awesome ep!! i love every song on it. i love how they gave us 2 new songs to hold us over until their next full album was coming out. i love how they did 2 covers of bands they respect and great songs. and i also love how they did 2 acoustic versions of their own songs. it's a win win all around!! if you're thinking about buying this, think no further..BUY IT!!! i promise you won't be disappointed..your only problem will be wanting to get their other albums ASAP!!! =Dxmeghanx
