4.0 out of 5 stars It's the liks, baby
This isn't as great as their awe-inspiring first album, '21 and over', but it's still a damn fine bunch of tunes.. nice beats and samples (if lacking the old-skool crunch of '21 and over'), well-chosen guests who aren't too intrusive, and best of all, no gangsta pretentions - just straight up party-style MCing that'll make you realise just how wack the average rapper...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tha Alkaholiks- Coast II Coast
First heard Tha Alkaholiks (DJ E-Swift,Tash, J-Ro) when I got there second album "Coast II Coast" (1995) as a gift. Production on this release by the likes of DJ E-Swift, Q-Tip Madlib and Diamond D stood out back then. Xzibit also made a name for himself in association with the Liks. Early standouts for me include the deadly sounding "Let it Out",...

watch out for the highlight, 'flashback', which pays amusing homage to everyone from parliament to the sugarhill gang.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best hip hop album you never heard!, November 10, 1998
This review is from: Coast II Coast (Audio CD)
A great album with slammin beats, strong basslines, a lyrics that make you say "damn". WLIX is one of the greatest freestyles i've ever heard. Great Party music, or music to just cruise too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Liks are true MC's, June 18, 1998
This review is from: Coast II Coast (Audio CD)
This album was way underhyped and thus overlooked by most rap fans. The production is great by E-Swift and Diamond D. The Lik's are great lyricists who can really tear the mic up. Q-Tip, King Tee, and Xzibit all guest star. Flashback is an ode to old school rap but this album is definitely cutting edge.

4.0 out of 5 stars good second album, June 16, 2005
This review is from: Coast II Coast (Audio CD)
This was a tight follow up to their classic first album. The beats were nicely produced and mixed again and they came with some tight flows ripping their tracks up again. Their styles compliment eachother on their tracks, you can see how well they flow when they flip the mic to eachother. This was the first time I heard xzibit also who's album came out a year after. This was the good sh#t in 95 while their were others in the westcoast that would make a whole album about bulls#it with bulls#it lyrics that wouldn't touch just the intro on here. Theres another appearance from the local lootpack too. The only thing that would have been good is if they had put 'coast 2 coast' which was used in 'friday' on too. But still, its an excellent album taking it back to the oldschool of real hip hop. There was a lot put into this album. If you like REAL hip hop, make sure you get this if you haven't like these other smart people here have. Peace!

The Liks put out a solid album with 'Coast 2 Coast' ....The beats are laid back but always thumpin'....'Dayyum" is a personal fav of mine .....Another great track is 'flashback' where they pay homage to the old school partying days...That track also features a young Xzibit...

Great album...you wont be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Drunk, October 21, 2004
This review is from: Coast II Coast (Audio CD)
When will drunk, pot-smokin', and musical karaoke alcoholics put a record out? Oh wait, I'm talking about this album, but I mean that statement in a good way. Hip-Hop from the West Coast is almost famous in a sense of the "old school" and since this album came out in 1995 it is considered by some as "old school"; I think it could be with a respect to most of the choruses and "hooks". Give mad respect to Madlib for making a debut for a start to a wonderful career as DJ, Producer, and Rapper; as he mixed and matched beats of piano, bass, and "house party beats".
I went to the fridge and grabbed a 40, sat down, and am finishing this drunken review. It is my 2nd 40 (of Old E of course!), since I am on track 7 ("Daam!") listening to the flows with too many head-noddin' beats and with a chorus full of "Daam!!!" Forget the rest of the review, just buy the album, for real!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tha Liks All The Way Live From Coast II Coast!, December 31, 2005

I say, Tha Alkaholiks (Rico "Tash" Smith, James "J-Ro" Robinson & Eric "E-Swift" Brooks) is one of my favorite groups from the west coast. Comming from Los Angeles, their sophomore pull Coast II Coast, really puts them on the scene expressing their style of no gimmics and no BS. Just grab the mic and let the lyrics run.

The album starts off with a show that they perform, then moves into "WLIX" a freestyle with local L.A. group Lootpack. "Read My Lips" and "21 & Under" are decent tracks. "All The Way Live" features vocals from Q-Tip and King Tee. "DAAAM!" is one of their singles that comes as a party track that they recorded while on tour back in '94. "Hit & Run" is a stand out track that talks about picking up girls and features vocals from Xzibit. "2004" J-Ro goes solo and holds a sample from KRS-One as the hook. "Bottoms Up" is another decent track that will appear to some people. "Flashback" would sound like a 70's song, and another fun party track, where J-Ro, Xzibit and The Babby Bubbas (Devestating E and Lil' Tone) rips it up. The final track "The Next Level" would feature produciton and vocals from D.I.T.C.'s Diamond D.

Overall I like this CD and what Tha Alkaholiks have to offer on it. Some tracks I wasn't feeling too much, but it doesn't mean that they were bad ones though. I Recommend this to those who like how MCs grab the mic and have no hype behind them, but at the same time, rock the party. Coast II Coast was exactly this right here. If you liked this album, I also recommend Likidation and 21 & Over

Standouts: WLIX, DAAM!, Hit & Run, All The Way Live, Flashback, The Next Level

5.0 out of 5 stars Tha Alkaholiks continue to rip the mic like nobody can!!!, January 20, 1999
This review is from: Coast II Coast (Audio CD)
The Liks' sophomore album "Coast II Coast" is every bit as good as their classic debut. Fans of the first album will be happy to see that the Liks haven't missed a step. They are every bit as strong on the mic, as the tear through song after song. Like their first LP, there isn't a wack cut on this album. Many of the tracks include the straight up freestyles, and battle flows of their first release, like the track "Let It Out" (which also lifts the theme song beat from Bruce Lee's flick Enter The Dragon) but this album also contains broadened lyrics. Just check "2034", a song about a post apocolyptic earth, where hip-hop is about to reborn. Plus they kick a raw dedication to the old school sound on the track "Flashback". Bottom line, if you're not a fan yet, this CD will change your mind.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tha Alkaholiks- Coast II Coast, July 18, 2004
This review is from: Coast II Coast (Audio CD)
First heard Tha Alkaholiks (DJ E-Swift,Tash, J-Ro) when I got there second album "Coast II Coast" (1995) as a gift. Production on this release by the likes of DJ E-Swift, Q-Tip Madlib and Diamond D stood out back then. Xzibit also made a name for himself in association with the Liks. Early standouts for me include the deadly sounding "Let it Out", "21 and Under" and the grimey "Hit and Run" which X to the Z rips up. "Bottoms Up" had the Liks tearing into wack underskilled MC's backed by some ominous sounding beats. The best beats are saved for last in my opinion as the closing track "Next Level" is laced with an addictive beat and memorable verses from the Liks. The downside to this album is its shortness, which makes it a hard one for me to recommend to anyone besides people who really liked it in the past. While Tha Alkaholiks never have made it big commercially they did manage to bring a distinct West Coast party sound. 3.5.
