The beauty-and use-of this pictorial guidebook to the coast of New England is in the aerial photography. Author Patey, a book publisher, Ron Harnish, the airplane pilot, and Laurence R. Lowry, the photographer, have combined their talents in a highly unusual presentation of one of the most beautiful natural terrains and widely sought after vacation areas in the country. Traveling "Down East," from Connecticut to Maine, they have concentrated on stunning natural harbors (Mystic, Connecticut), islands (Block Island, Rhode Island), and favorite New England ports (Cape Cod, Massachusetts). Maps of each geographic section introduce the aerial photographs, which are accompanied by smaller shots of local landmarks and harbor life. All of the photos are in full color with pithy captions. The collaborators might have braved the coast in snowy winter for some variety of season, but this terrific resource should serve sailors as well as tourists. Highly recommended.
