5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational, August 26, 2001
This review is from: Coast to Coast W/Uptown Girl (Audio CD)
Westlife has put together one of the best romantic pop albums ever. Filled with gorgous songs and stunning remakes this is one album that will satisfy all Westlife fans as well as fans of all the other boybands. The distinction between this boyband and the others is that they only focus on the music and the singing. it's not overproduced with all techtronics drowning out the vocals. The most amazing single is My Love, a beautiful ballad that is so romantic that it is sure to be a hit at weddings. Their duet is breathtaking with Mariah carey on Against All Odds. They definetly hold their own with one of pops greatest vocalists. I lay My Love On You and If I let You Go are sweet uptempo songs that will surely bring a smile to your face. They also do wonderful renditions of Billy Joels Uptown Girl and the Temptations My Girl, keeping it close to the original without giving it a new sound, and only concentrating on the harmonies. Finally, a sensational remake of I'll Be There. they guys sound their best on this song. I really wish someone would take notice of these phenomenally talented guys. They truly deserve to be up there in the ranks with Nsync and Backstreet Boys.

but not a must buy. If you already have Coast to Coast, buying the import isnt a necessity. Don't get me wrong i do enjoy the cd and everything. The extra songs are cool as well "Close Your Eyes", "nothing is impossible" and the new recordings of "My Girl", "I'll Be There" and "Uptown Girl".

But it isn't necessary to buy unless your a hardcore Westlife fan and want to have everything cd that they've released since first coming out.

it's been a year after the album was released in November 2000, i only reviewing it now cause i think this is worth the money!
my first choice, "when u'r looking like that" is awesome, something that u don't expect from westlife but they did it, an up tempo plus a little bit of rock, move ur feet with this song!
apart from "when u'r looking like that", "soledad" is the first ballads that melt my heart, this latino taste of song captured me cause i like latino music, this is just the one that u'll cry for it!
"my love" was my first crush, well, it ws the first single anyway, the gitar plugging after the chorus is the best part, although it's short but u'll remember the song just like that!
"i lay my love for u", a song which i was not into it but now, it's my fav of this album! why? well, during the concert, this song started with a ballads version with shane sang the lead, and this song will be good even it's a ballads and i fel in love with this one instantly!
"close", shane has always been my fav westlifer, again, in this song, he did it again, captured listener with his smooth and tender vocal performance!
other materials such as "fragile heart", against all odds", "dream come true", "what makes a man" worth a listen.
with 18 songs from them, this makes the album worth a buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Backstreet who? NSync who? Move over boys, Westlife is here, October 30, 2001

This is by far one of THE best albums I have listened to in a very long long time. It is very rare that I can put a CD in the stereo over 100 times in a row and never get tired of it. Beginning with 'My Love', a very powerful ballad that will have you learning the words and singing along by the 3rd time you hear it. I am also a huge Billy Joel fan, so when I saw the remake of 'Uptown Girl', I was hooked. These guys know how to take an oldie and do it justice, instead of destroying it.
The only small dissapointment I had was with 'When You're Looking Like That'. Everyone has their achilles heel, and Westlife's is trying to make a very upbeat song. I personally feel they should stick to the ballads, which is what they are incredibly 500% good at. 'Soledad' is quite the proof of that.
All the other songs, from 'Lay My Love On You', to 'My Girl', to 'What Makes a Man' are songs that will take a long long time before I get tired of it. I only wish they'd release their albums in the United States also. But I'm sure Backstreet Boys, NSync, 98 Degrees, and the rest of the boybands here in the U.S. wouldn't like that very much.
Backstreet who? 'N-what? 98 what? Move over boys... Westlife is here, and taking the pop world by storm.

5.0 out of 5 stars A CD In A League Of It's Own!, September 20, 2001

I'm still not quite sure why I love Westlife so much more than the U.S. boy bands. If you don't know who Westlife is they are an Irish boy band that has torn up the charts in the UK. They have had at least 8 #1 singles (all debuting at #1) and they have only put out 2 CD's- Coast To Coast being their second. A lush romantic CD with some fantastic songs, its easy to see why they are so popular overseas. A few of the reasons why Westlife is head and shoulders above other boy bands are their great harmony, the use of acoustical instruments in their songs, and also the great beats the songs have. It's rare that one of their songs is totally electronic. To me this adds a great deal of depth to their sound. Alot of credit has to go to their producer Steve Mac who can write and produce songs with the best of them. Westlife tied the Beatles by having 7 straight #1 songs. I have listened to this CD for a year and have not tired of it yet. Here are my thoughts on the songs found on this Coast To Coast import CD:

My Love: One of the best pop songs of all time! A beautiful song about lost love. A great chorus and is easily the cornerstone of this CD. Entered the UK charts at #1. 10/10

If I Let You Go: this song is actually on the US version of their first CD. A great mid-tempo song. 8/10

What Makes A Man: Another wonderful song about lost love. Very powerful. This was their only single that did not enter the charts at #1- It entered at #2. 9/10

I Lay My Love On You- An absolute classic pop song and one of my favorites. This song flows real well and has an incredibly catchy chorus. 10/10

Against All Odds: A duet with Mariah Carey. A good cover of a good song. They work well together. 6/10

When Your Looking Like That: The most upbeat Westlife song to date. To those who say they can't handle upbeat songs just listen to this. Can't wait to hear what they do with Max Martin's sound on their next CD. 8/10

Close: Ohhh, this song is beautiful. I want this song at my wedding if I ever marry. I can listen to it all day. 10/10

Somebody Needs You: a mid-tempo song reminiscent of Max Martin. A good addition. 7/10

Angel's Wings: To me, the worst song on a great CD. Too overbearing and melodramatic. 5/10

Soledad: A slow song with a spanish flavor to it. I didn't really like this song at first but it has really grown on me. 8/10

Puzzle Of My Heart: A sweet love song. 8/10

Dreams Come True: An ok song with a good message. A little blah. 6/10

No Place That Far: An ok love song. 7/10

Close Your Eyes: A slow song about being away from the one you love. Nice. 7/10

You Make Me Feel: A nice slow song with the rare bonus of hearing Kian and Nicky sing lead. 7/10

Loniliness Knows Be By Name: A cool mid-tempo song with a great chorus. 8/10

Fragile Heart: A song which sounds like it came from a poem. Good, but it sounds- and is- a little short. 7/10

Every Little Thing You Do: Another great slow song with a powerful chorus. 8/10

Nothing Is Impossible: A bonus track and the only song written by the boys themselves. It's actually really good. 8/10

Uptown Girl: A remake done for a charity cause. Listen to this song if you want to hear how good these guys sing together. A great cover. 9/10

I'll Be There: Another remake done extremely well. 8/10

All in all a fantastic CD. The get alot of flak for singing so many ballads but who cares as ongs as they are great in doing it. There up-beat tunes are just as catchy as there ballads. I simply can't wait until their 3rd album comes out. If you like this CD then be sure to check out their first CD- Westlife.
