Not a regular boy band,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coast to Coast (Audio CD)
Westlife, with there second album has out done themselves! The melody and brilliant harmonies of the lads, is a testament to their vocal ability. With songs like Soledad, and Angel's Wings, they show how gifted they are. The song My Love, takes us deep into their appreciation and love of their home. The entire album is undeniably, brilliant. It's melodic, it has groove and soul and is obviously a result of hardworking and talent.

An incredible follow-up,

Westlife's debut album was an international success. Fueled by the huge #1 singles "Swear It Again", "If I Let You Go", "Flying Without Wings", "I Have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun" and "Fool Again", the album will always remain a boy-band classic. Their follow-up CD "Coast To Coast" succesfully continues their magical formula of enchanting ballads. With the addition of numerous uptempo tracks, Westlife have expanded and improved upon their traditional sound. The massive hits "I Have A Dream", "Against All Odds (feat. Mariah Carey)" and "My Love' can all be found on this CD. Also, the upcoming christmas single "Angel's Wings" and uptempo future single "When You're Looking Like That" are featured. The highlights of this album are some of the final tracks on this massive 19 track CD (there is an amazing bonus track, which brings the total songs up to 19). "Close Your Eyes", "Loneliness Knows Me By Name", "Every Little Thing You Do" and bonus track "Nothing Is Impossible" are the strongest tracks on the album. Overall, this is a classic album. I highly recommend it for any lover of quality pop music. Miles ahead of the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC. Enjoy!

Sophomore Album Job Well Done,
By "lizteeth" (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coast to Coast (Audio CD)
Although entertainment is seldom considered high art and pop culture occupies the lower end of the rung on the hierarchy, Westlife hailing from the pristine Ireland is nevertheless a group of talented vocal artists who steer popular music away from the heavily contamination of sex and violence. Like many other who walked before them, Westlife is undoubtedly a boyband - they don't write their music, they are in a group of 5, they dress as if they just walked out of a catalogue. Although not as comely looking as boyband members would like to be (which is a possible cause for their unpopularity in the US), their vocal talent is real. The songs themselves are nice, clean, and decent love songs. One can get a general feeling of what the songs are about just by glancing at the titles. The lyrics are remenicent of old school serenades that boys sing to the girls they admire in a appropriately passionate way. The melodies, like the lyrics, are nothing profound but are pleasing. Most of them are slow to moderate tempo - not so much of the upbeat-pop-song style - like good old love songs should be. This is their sophomore album. Like their debut album, Coast to Coast is a collection of songs one would enjoy listening to in the car or singing along to while alone. This albuem, however, marks a small leap to maturity. I consider there to be more melodic variations than in the first album. Some of the lyrics can also be interpreted to encompass beyond romantic love but greater affection of other existence as well. Not to mention this album has 4 oldies covers. Against all Odds, Uptown Girl, I have a dream, and My Girl. All are suitably chosen to fit the overall theme of the album. For people who liked their debut album, this is not an album to miss. For those who are not familiar with Westlife, this album is also a good place to start experiencing a more traditional side of popular boyband music.

THE USA is definately missing out on this one.,
This review is from: Coast to Coast (Audio CD)
The USA is definately missing out on something here. In a music stream of talentless pop acts who are famous based solely on looks, Westlife surprisingly stands out. They are the perfect formula for any boyband, pop music with 5 guys who dance and basically don't write a lot of their own music. But in a world full of NSync's and Backstreet Boys's, I actually admit to liking Westlife. They have amazing lyrics and good songs to tag along with. From the emotional "Soledad" one of my personal favorites to the upbeat "When You're Looking Like That" - little, if any of the songs are skippable. This CD has more of a variety than their debut, which supplied mainly with ballads. Now we have the nice ballads that have given Westlife their trademark - "What Makes A Man", "Close", "Every Little Thing You Do", "No Place that Far" but also room for inprovement in uptempo beats - "When You're Looking Like That", "I Lay My Love On You" This CD definately needs recogniztion. If not for the song writing or instrumental talent, then for the vocals. The USA is really missing out on one heck of a good CD.

I thought that westlife were a very talented group of young men. They sing many sweet songs and do a great job with every one of them. They are one of my favorite pop bands out there because they are a little more creative then some of those other backstreet boy copiers out there. They have there own songs which stand out from o-town and 98 degrees. These guys have their own melody and there own rythm. Keep it up westlife. It is to bad not more people in the usa have heard about these guys and bought their cds. There is nothing more I can say

The latest offering by westlife is their best to date. With its mix of uptempos and ballads, it'll definitely make those that aren't a fan, a fan.I liked every track on this album. The ones that stand out: "My Love", "I Lay My Love on You", "Close Your Eyes", "Puzzle of My Heart", "When You're Looking Like That."

The dramatic ones,
This review is from: Coast to Coast (Audio CD)
Did you ever feel that the Backstreet Boys were missing something? More soulful singing perhaps? Well Westlife's second album COAST TO COAST has it all. Lush BSB-ish ballads and mid-tempos from beginning to end. Other boybands that've attempted this fell flat on their faces. It easy to ride this off as cheese but the boys of Westlife pull off some pretty soulful singing. They sound sincere with their angelic voices. Bryan, Mark, Kian, Nicky, and Shane are great solo vocalists and they sound awesome together. To me, Mark has the best voice. Unfortunately COAST TO COAST has it's share of "cheese" with songs like "angel's wings" and "no place that far", and "fragile heart." They tend to get a bit too dramatic (lyrically and vocally) on those tracks and it ends up coming off as downright silly. Other than that COAST TO COAST an excellent pop album.

You can love this CD and not have to despise other bands!,
By
This review is from: Coast to Coast (Audio CD)
It always discourages me to read reviews of really good material, only to see the reviewer has to fall for the oldest, most tired argument - to say that this band is "so much better than.." the others.Westlife has truly produced an amazing CD - My Love is a beautifully written and beautifully harmonized song that delivers both musically and lyrically. It is one of the best pop ballads I've ever heard because it's not overly sexed, doesn't mention body parts, and is sweetly romantic. Lay Your Love on Me, I Have a Dream, Against All Odds, etc are also great tracks, though it sounds as though Westlife's voices were just added in/over Mariah's since her vocals on Against All Odds sound identical to the version on her "Rainbow" CD. Hmm.. As far as American consumers go, this is a refreshing group of songs from a great group of singers. I don't subscribe to the notion that in order to like one group, I have to bash another - so I'll just say that this is yet another "boyband" (I hate that term) worth stocking in the CD changer! |
