I've collected cookbooks for over 25 years and this is the best one I've ever seen! The recipes are wonderful, the photographs are gorgeous and even the paper it's printed on is lush! It's a class act!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Coastal Living - Great Recipes for Everyone, June 8, 2006
This review is from: The Coastal Living Cookbook: The Ultimate Recipe Collection for People Who Love the Coast (Hardcover)
"The Coastal Living Cookbook. The Ultimate Recipe Collection for People Who Love the Coast" By Coastal Living, Editor. © 2004 Oxmoor House, Inc. Birmingham Alabama.

If you live along the coast, or wish you did, this is the cookbook for you. Beautifully photographed, this cookbook includes full menus, recipes for the grill, for picnics, for leisurely breakfasts and abundant desserts. Directions are easy and there are even tips like how to host a wine tasting.

Breads include corn bread to Italian Bread Salad, breakfast treats feature Easy Berry pancakes, Baked French Toast Casserole and Strawberry Streusel muffins. Desserts ranging from peanut butter and chocolate chunk cookies to frozen Sangria Pops to Baby Pineapples filled with Pineapple Sherbet.

For entrees, you can choose anything from Marinated Pepper Crusted Beef Tenderloin and Jalapeño Cheeseburgers, to Grilled Chicken and Pesto Clubs, or Southwestern Chicken Bundles.
Ah- then there is fish and seafood. There is a great section titled the Seafood Primer - and describes everything, with recommended cooking techniques, from catfish to caviar to wild salmon. Try the Broiled Clams in Herb Butter, Grilled Alaskan Halibut with Avocado Lime Sauce, or Crab Bisque, Crab Cakes or Crab Rolls. As you can imagine, seafood is covered extensively.
So in this book there really is something for everyone.

This is on my `recommended' list for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars seafood galore...and more, April 6, 2004
This review is from: The Coastal Living Cookbook: The Ultimate Recipe Collection for People Who Love the Coast (Hardcover)
Not only are there lots of delicious recipes (I especially like the plank fish recipes), but this cookbook also offers a lot in the way of tips, such as identifying the types of fish, telling how to select seafood, etc. It's really a great resource for anyone who loves seafood.

I have a lot of cooking books and this one is one of the best. The recipes are simple and absolutely delicious. It's a must have in your cookbook collection.
I also bought simple and simply delicious by Sylvie Rocher. Those 2 books are on the top of my favorites

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the coast, July 22, 2011
This review is from: The Coastal Living Cookbook: The Ultimate Recipe Collection for People Who Love the Coast (Hardcover)
This is probably my favorite cookbook out of hundreds of cookbooks. The
pictures are delightful and the food and recipes are equal to the pictures.
It takes you away to the ocean and to its wonderful offerings of food, fun,
and pleasurable experiences on the water. The recipes are delicious and
will inspire you to try others that are just as good. I return time and
time again to this book to see what I might offer my family to give them
a wonderful day at our home or at the beach.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1 of the best cook books you will ever use., January 2, 2011

The seafood receipes are great, but the big surprises come with the vegtable receipes like the Brussels Sprout Beignets on pg 91. The little bit of garlic changes the flavor totally. The Maple & Ginger Glazed Acorn Squash is great too. I gave this book to my mother-in-law as a gift and she is a great-but picky cook. She did several of the shrimp dishes and was very satisfied with them all.

I love to cook!
I also love a good cookbook and know one when I see one. And this is one!!! I have over 300 cookbooks in my collection.
If you long for the sea, to be near the smell and the sounds of the ocean this book will help you get there at least in your mind. This book is full of wonderful well tested recipes that my family loves. I have yet to try one that hasn't been a complete hit. Photos are beautiful and will surely get you in the mood to be near the coast and try some wonderful dishes.
Some of our favorites;
Crusin' Crap Dip, Spiced Shrimp Zapala, Romas and Goat Cheese, Artichoke Cakes with Cajun Remoulade, Vandy's Butter-Braised Oysters, Northwest Clam Chowder with Oyster Mushrooms, Butternut Squash Empanadas, Balsamic Glazed Scallops, Molasses Pork Tenderloin with Red Wine Sauce, Asian Glazed Cornish Hens, Mussel Soup with Saffron and Cream, Garlicky Green Beans, Hawaiian Pineapple Gazpacho, Italian Club Sandwich, Grilled Rib Eye Steak with Crispy Gongonzola Crust and Grilled Scallions and the list goes on and on and on!!
The book is very well laid out with sections on Coastal Pantry Favorites, Coastal Kitchen Tools, Stock a Party Closet, Coastal Entertaining Ideas, All About Fish and Shellfish, Metric Equivalents and my favorite, a section called Favorite Recipe Journal where you can write down the recipe, Source/page and remarks.
This book really is loaded with everything and if you long to be by the sea this book is a must!!

I have owned this cookbook for about 3 years. Recently, I bought another copy for my aunt. The recipes come from restaurants across the country and feature regional seafood specialties, featuring fresh ingredients with emphasis on seafood. Of all the cookbooks I own, this contains the most (and best) seafood recipes, although it is not exclusively limited to seafood. There are sections on party planning and shopping tips. I also like the appetizer section, and use it frequently. The photos are very lovely, so I often keep the book on display in my cookbook stand in the kitchen. It's a great addition to your collection (although it should not be your first/only cookbook) and makes a good gift for someone with similar interests.
