Lots if fun and great story telling!
Dennis Conrad
Writing is juvenile, no character development and the way the story is told is laughable.
Danielle Maldonado
This is a story about love, secrets, and a wonderful ending to it all.

I picked this book up through the Daily Deal and I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. I managed to finish this book only because I needed something to read before a new book was released today. The story was ok. As other reviewers have said the characters were not developed at all and the writing was rather juvenile. This is an actual sentence from the book "She parked her car in the underground garage and locked it with the remote control on a metal key ring." Really??? Why all the useless detail? I feel like sentences like this were added to this book just to give it some extra length. This story could have been really good if it had been edited and the characters and story were actually developed. This was a quick read so if you're looking for something quick that you don't have to put much thought into this may be a good choice for you.

There was nothing interesting here. The dialogue is so wooden that I kept imagining the characters speaking in "melodrama" voice. There is no depth to the characters, they are hero or villain. It is rare that I can't finish a book but I skimmed the ending and it doesn't get better. I will be more cautious about choosing the daily deals from now on.

I hate to say this, but this book was really bad. As other reviewers have said, the writing was juvenile and the plot was laughable. Do not waste your time or your money.

I enjoyed the details of the island and people of the background of the story as much as I did the main characters.

Very soapy and kind of boring, the same old, same old, love discovering. No real drama or heartfelt emotions to enjoy.

I think I have walked away from two books in my life and this is one of them. I read about 25% and just couldn't take any more. Writing is juvenile, no character development and the way the story is told is laughable.

1) In case you forget that the protagonist, Laina, has pale skin, honey-blonde hair, and gray eyes, don't worry; the author will remind you again every two or three pages.

2) The verbal abuse itself is awful, but the fact that the protagonist allows herself and her foster child to be continually subjected to it without even so much as attempting to defend herself or the little girl is mystifying. She doesn't remove herself or her child from the situation, she doesn't correct her horrible nephew when he is rude and ugly to her foster daughter... ugh. Even the sympathetic family members who don't believe such abuse is warranted or appropriate do very little or nothing at all to stave it off. The way that whole situation is dealt with makes no sense.

3) I think there must be 30 hours in a day in this book; that, or everyone eats lunch at nine in the morning. Because the sheer volume of activity that takes place on the most important day of this story cannot possibly all be accomplished in one day.

4) One of the "big, shocking revelations" that leaves everyone in the family contrite for their years of unjustified, verbally abusive behavior is that, during a car accident that cost all their fathers their lives, it was their own father/uncle who was driving, not Laina's father. Never mind how stupid it is that they've used "your dad was driving" as grounds for making an innocent girl into their scapegoat; the information about who was driving when the crash occurred would have been a matter of public record, part of the original crash report. All the injuries would have indicated who was positioned where. For god's sake, the man everyone in the story has been blaming for causing the accident was seatbelted into the back seat of the car.
