Then the other chair broke about a week later.

The rotational torque of the back rest uprights forces the chair to hinge at the arm rest upright and arm rest juncture and then snap, the little wooden dowels break.

I was very disappointed with these two barstools I ordered. Within two days of using the stools, a guest leaned on the backrest of the stool and the armrests broke loose and the backrest cracked. By the end of the first week, I forgot and inadvertently leaned against the backrest of the other stool, and the backrest and arms broke loose on this one as well.

At that point, I called and left a voice mail message and sent an e-mail to the company explaining what had happened. I called again the next day, and the person I talked to agreed to send me replacement parts for all the armrests and the broken chair back. I waited a couple weeks and did not receive the replacement parts. I called again, and the person I spoke to this time said they saw where I called in earlier, but for some reason the replacement parts had not been shipped.

I have called and e-mailed several times since then, but no replacement parts and no more response from the company. It is now more than 30 days since I placed the order, so I suppose I'm stuck!

These chairs suffer from a bad design flaw. There is a shim in the front underneath the seat that tilts the chairs back at a slight angle. When someone, even a light-weight person, leans against the backrest there is an upward component of force exerted at the attachment point of the armrests to their supports. This joint is only secured with glue and wooden dowels, and the armrests pull loose from their supports -- sometimes causing the backrest frame to splinter as well. The solution, if you are interested in a nice ~$200/chair do-it-yourself opportunity is to disassemble the seat, remove the shim, and then attach metal angle brackets to the armrest, armrest supports, and backrest supports at all stress points. Or you could just remove the armrests and chair backs!

UPDATE: Out of the box you will see a note, "Residential use only". That's because these chairs wouldn't last 24 hours in a restaurant. I ignored the warning on other reviews, hoping for the super comfortable chair promised on other reviews. In my initial hopeful review, I commented on a correctable manufacturing error (Please my initial review below this update). Today, I'm WARNING YOU that the design of the chairs is flawed and once it breaks...and I promise you that it will, you will see the flaw.
The arm rest and the back rest uprights each have a single bolt at the base where they attach to the seat; these single bolts act as a hinge point where all 4 uprights want to rotate backwards. This hinging effect is only prevented by a 90 deg stabilizing joint where the arm rest upright attaches to the arm rest. This is the location where the chair is GUARANTEED TO BREAK; the stabilizing joint is held together by two little wooden dowels that are too fragile to resist the rotational torque created by the long lever arms of the the back rest uprights. The rotational torque of the back rest uprights forces the chair to hinge at the arm rest upright and arm rest juncture and then snap, the little wooden dowels break.
After reading the other reviews my wife and I felt that if we are very careful and only lean back on the back rest occasionally then the chair would withstand gentle use; we were wrong. In order to prevent this backward hinging effect, I've reinforced the chair at the base of all 4 uprights with an L bracket that blocks their rotation. I placed an additional L bracket under the arm rest upright and arm rest juncture on each side that maintains the 90 deg angle which in theory is supposed to prevent rotation at all of the hinge points.

Absolute junk! They are not quality at all--fell apart after a week. I cannot warn you enough--these will not last. One wasn't even able to be assembled, one of the leather backs tore at the seam just moving it, after one week the backs came loose and nearly fell off. Totally misrepresented product. You have been warned!

The chair was not assembled correctly from the factory. When I mounted the arm rest, I noticed it was under strain and broke at the joint when I sat in the chair.
I have to send it to a carpinter to get it fixed.
Bad deal....

Almost all of the reviews I read for this product as I was researching which stool to purchase were complimentary. Unfortunately, my own review is anything but positive. Although the chair looks sturdy and is heavy enough, the quality is horrible. There were a few dings in the arm that I noticed as I took it out of the box, but that's really not a big deal to me. However, the fact that the chair back/arms became loose after less than week of use and completely fell apart exactly one week after putting it together DOES bother me. I bought the stool to use in my high school English classroom; I am not a huge person (right around 115 lbs), and I was not using it for anything more than sitting in during class discussion. Luckily, my husband is a tech. ed. teacher in the same school, so I had him reinforce the stool and try to put it back together in a way that will hopefully make it last for at least a couple years to come. If this stool had been $25 at a garage sale, I wouldn't be as frustrated, but this is a stool that cost me over $200--NOT WORTH IT!!!! I don't want to be too hard on the product, but it really is a piece of junk.
