A balun is an impedance matching transformer. RG 6 Coax has an impedance of 75 ohms. UTP has an impedance of 100 ohms. To properly match these to each other, one MUST use a matching transformer, commonly called a balun. This is NOT a balun. DO NOT USE this product. A proper balun is approximately 265 mH from the + terminal to the BNC stinger. The - terminal to the ground is the same. A real balun will pass a transformer ring test with, at least, 11 rings. This item is nothing more than a straight through connection from the + terminal to the stinger and from the - terminal to ground. There is NO transformer inside. This item FAILS a transformer ring test. Using this item on a CCTV system will cause gross miss-match and the video will have excessive noise and signs of improper matching and the images will be subject to any and all electrical interference.

This was a very inexpensive item and we should have known there had to be a catch. I don't know what this could be used for, but it is certainly NOT a product to use to match CAT 5 or 6 UTP to 75 ohm video. It is just a straight through connector and does NOT match anything.

If you are looking for a balun to run cctv video over cat5 or cat6 this is not the balun you are looking for. The description is very misleading. These do not have balun features. Do a search on cctvforum.com regarding these adapters for more info. Don't make the same mistake me and a lot of other people have made.

Agree with the other 1-star ratings. Spent half a day learning what others already knew. Just went thru a pack of 5. They are NOT a balun. There is no coil inside. They might work on a short run, but they definitely do not on a longer run. Throw them away if you have them. Buy a real balun. Save yourself a lot of frustration.

I agree with the other 1 star reviewers - these devices do not appear to be Baluns. After having spent several days, inspecting my CAT5 wiring, and testing everything I can thinking of - I finally decided to check these devices, with my meter - sure enough, they don't seem to read as baluns. I will be replacing these devices ASAP.

Crap. Fragile, breaks easily under testing. Would not depend on it.

I've had good luck with these balun's but they are not isolated.

I wonder why they sell them in groups of five since you need to use them in pairs. Unless they expect a failure or it's a sneaky way to get you to order 2 packs so there are enough pairs. Just because of this I am going to order more from someone that sells them in even numbers.

I was trying to wire two cameras using one cable using these. Fail. Fail in the form of cross talk interference. Using one camera was okay...but still was not equal to using a regular bnc cable.
