5.0 out of 5 stars Very good compact cb.
I have several cb radios, from basic three knob ones to single side band, so after reading the bad reviews on this radio i decided to give it a try.
This radio has very good reception, and has the full 4 watts on transmit, but the antenna that comes with the radio is for short distances only, no more than two miles, so I just put away that antenna and connected a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bigger than it looks and not very good
If you're tight on dashboard space you might be tempted to get this radio. Think again. The bulk of the radio is contained all within the box you'll be holding in your hand. This makes for a much bigger handset than you might think. That and it tends to get pretty warm, enough that it's uncomfortable to hold for very long. And if all this wasn't bad enough, it's...

And if all this wasn't bad enough, it's functioning as a CB radio isn't very good. It has neither good reception or transmission. You won't hear anything at any appreciable distance, nor they you.

Overall? Skip this radio, it's just not very good.

I have several cb radios, from basic three knob ones to single side band, so after reading the bad reviews on this radio i decided to give it a try.
This radio has very good reception, and has the full 4 watts on transmit, but the antenna that comes with the radio is for short distances only, no more than two miles, so I just put away that antenna and connected a cobra whip antenna and WOW! I received and transmit several miles away.
If you have big hands like me, you will be fine because the handheld is bigger than the regular cb microphone.
Sound is like from a walkie talkie, because the speaker is small, you can hear and understand everything but you can use an external speaker and the sound will improve a lot.
This is a very good radio but you will need a better antenna, I used a cobra HG A 1500 antenna that i have (you can buy one here on amazon) and I used a cheap pyramid cb external speaker and voala!

5.0 out of 5 stars nice and compact cb, June 15, 2010

i've gotten great signal reports from my buddies on this radio. ditch the stock antenna and get a good one. i'm using a wilson 1000. dual watch is nice. illuminated face and screen are cool. i haven't tried the PA or external speaker options but sure they will be fine if i decide to accessorize.

if you can't afford the cobra 75 the 76 is a nice alternative with just a few less options.

my only regret is that the 76 doesn't have weather channels.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cobra 76XTR CB Radio, September 29, 2007
This review is from: Cobra C76XTR 40-Channel CB Radio (Electronics)
Ok let's start by comparing oranges with oranges... for a cb radio it is not bad, but remember it is a band of frequencies that are used by truckers that are using FAR MORE power that what is coming out of this poor unit, 4 watts. CB's have always been ment for short range commnuications, while FRS is also ment for that purpose they are using higher frequncies and a difffernet modulation The modulation ,FM, alone means that you will have a better commnuication platform, than the AM modulation in the CB's. So really for what it is... it is OK.
