The Cobra XRS-9955 provides very decent K/Ka Detection, definitely notice an improvement from the Cobra 9950 that I owned. During a driving test with my friend, it seemed to performed about the same level (in term of sensibility and number of false reading) as his Beltronics Pro GX65, a detector that costs twice as much as the Cobra. However, we did noticed the XRS-9955 is a bit slow to react and alert to instant-on radar. The Whistler Pro and Valentine One performed noticeably better in this area, but again they cost much more. The Cobra 9955 is a good choice for the money.

In the past I have had 3 other Cobra Radar Detectors so I was excited to get this one. I installed it in my car in the morning and by noon a bright blue line appeared across the display. The line stays there at all times when the unit is on and wont go away. Before I returned the unit I did some research and about 1/3 to 1/2 of the reviewers of similar Cobra units had screen failures of some kind. I wish I could buy the unit with all of the features without the failing display.

The product worked normal for couple months and then a blue streak/line appeared in center from top to bottom of the display screen. The line does not go away even after turning device on/off several times. Left device off for few days, still the line appeared when I plugged and turned on the device. Previously had voice-alert Cobra radar and after few years, the speaker started to crackle everytime it announced the alerts. Was hoping for better performance and luck with this device, but faulty display makes Cobra products less appealing to me now. Past the product return window, so unfortunately cannot return product. Very disappointed in this product due to display problem.

I like having a large display screen. Got to admit it does look a little like a feeding whale but you have the option of leaving it dark. I like it on because I do switch between city and highway modes and with a quick look I can see whats on. I get very few false alerts. It found a motorcyle cop a mile and a half away in heavy traffic. The instructions for setting the compass are not correct, but easily handled by reading the screen. Very user friendly. Love the screen!!! I would definitely recommend it.

The product is all it is supposed to be. Great price compared to other on-line offers. My only problem with it is the poor instructions. Needed to explain steps a little better and not concern themselves with saving on paper.

Well, I read about the view screens crashing on this model but so far so good. Now I've never been accused of being in the league with Einstein and those guys but here's my thinking. You can set the view mode so that there is just a small blinking square. The rest of the screen is black. When a sensor is activated the screen wakes up and informs you of what caused activation. The screen stays on as long as the threat is active. You can set this wake mode to stay on after the threat has been neutralized anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds I believe. At which point the 'screen saver' mode re-engages. That's my thinking. Use this 'screen saver' mode as such.

The range on this unit is good. I drive just under 50,000 miles a year. Speed limits to me are dictated by my experience with the given road and safety. Posted speed limits do not always reflect this. So I speed - sometimes. I have been spared three tickets my first two months of ownership. Not bad really. The only problem with the unit is the 'pop' mode. It seems to be a bit overly sensitive. For that reason I keep it deactivated. The default setting is deactive. Maybe that's why.

Finally, it is fairly easy to use except when you set up the electronic compass. That takes a bit of navigating. It is a good idea to hold on the instructions until you know how to do this. I set up the compass okay. When I went to Virginia I unplugged the unit and put it away. When I got back in Maryland and reconnected it, the compass was no longer accurate. Since I use it in screen saver mode anyway, I did not bother to reset it.

my unit - after about a week - kept flashing a "spectre alert" - even though was parked in my own garage ! called help line apparently needs to be sent back to have sensitivity turned down !

The Cobra XRS 9955 Detector seems to do all it claims. I am very happy with the unit. The suction cups for the windshield holder seem weak..but Cobra said they have no reported problems, and will send me some replacements.

I did my research before making the jump for this puppy and am glad I did. Reviews say great things about it and notes it as one of the best with the most features. Bought it for a couple of years now and still working good in Canada. Checked the frequencies and protocols supported and it's a match for me.

Keep in mind I bought this sometime in 09-10 though ;-)
