We got these expecting better range. After doing a lot of research, I knew it would be no where close to the 30+ miles they advertise, and would have been happy with just a couple of miles.Only tested on one outing: open interstate highway only got about 3/10 of a mile. Extremely disappointing! And this was after purchasing the $85 license to use them in GMRS high power mode! Other features are nice, including the weather radio. But if you're looking for range...better try somewhere else.

I ordered 4 sets of these for use in a large warehousing operation. Our associates really like the product, but we have had to return 1 set. Of the 2 radios I returned, one would not power on and the other one had very low volume when turned up all of the way. The return process was extremely easy to use and thus far, we have had no additional problems. I found the pricing on Amazon the lowest due to the free shipping that went along with the order.

I just used these for airsoft operations and they seemed to work well the whole time and can withstand a beating.

The first unit I received after a few uses stopped working. The transmit button on one of the radios did not work at all. After talking to Cobra I got them to pay for the return shipping. Well the next set of radios they sent me after a few uses also stopped working. I was in the woods of Colorado and lost contact with my hiking group for over 1 hour on flat ground no more than 1 mile away from each other. After non stop trying the radios started to work again but at that time we were only 200 yards apart. So I am calling Cobra again in the morning. Not sure what I will do as I wont get money back at this time and do I really want a 3rd radio sent to me after 2 bad sets. This is not something I want to rely on the woods if I needed it to work. I have an old pair of Cobra radios 8 years old that still work and never had an issue. These new units are smaller and made in China and cheap but the poor quality shows. I hope you have better luck than I did.

I've used many different brands and models of walkie-talkies, but keep coming back to Cobra. This model uses a more powerful battery (no memory and more power) than most comparable alternatives. I use them mostly in suburban and mountain settings, and have had longer range with them than other brands. Obviously, actual range is no where near the "maximum" advertised, but these have been as good as any. They're a little larger (taller) than some alternatives, but I'm guessing that is to accomodate the antennae ... which is probably what helps the range (along with the improved battery). My only gripe is that they made the PTT button large enough to be easy to find, but you have to be careful to push it in the center. I've had friends/kids who thought they were pushing the button to transmit, but since they didn't push right in the center, it was never activated. Haven't used the digital voice recorder feature yet, but it sounds like it might be useful to capture incoming "calls" that might otherwise be missed sometimes.

90% of the time when I transmit no one in my group hears me. So disgusted with these went out and bought a pair of Motorola units. Haven't had a chance to try them yet, but they have to be better than these Cobra units.
