5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Invention For Unclogging Drains! October 10, 2006
We had had a clog in one of our bathroom sinks for the past few weeks. I guess you could call it a "slow drain," where the basin fills up fast and takes a long time to drain out. My wife checked the trap, which was clear, and we'd tried all the traditional chemicals, to no avail. This weekend I found this, a much better answer to our drain troubles, and it doesn't even have any chemicals to dump into the water supply.

The product is basically a 16" plastic strip with a bunch of teeth on it. You stick the Zip It down the drain, and slowly pull it back up. I pulled up enough hair and other gunk to make me think I had lost a hamster down there at some point. I used the Zip It to clean out all the drains in the house, and then tossed it. It's disposable! Consider this product Mike V approved!

I am not the most handy person around, as my wife can attest. My greatest accomplishment as a homeowner was installing some dimmer switches without burning the house down. Of course my lowest point was falling through the ceiling, from the attic. So any easy household tool that can make me a hero is a very valuable find, indeed. Before calling a plumber or buying chemicals for your shower or bathroom sink clogs, try this product first. It really works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to find, but worth keeping on hand. May 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase
I have used this product several times over the last few years. It is difficult to find, thus the reason I am searching on line. I suggest you wear gloves because hair balls, soap and body debris create a slimy mess. So, I grab the rubber gloves and a small bag. I take the hair that I get out of my drain and throw it a small bag and then run the Zip It down the drain a few more times looking for additional clumps. It works like a dream. No chemicals and it takes just a few minute. The worse part is looking at the clumps. : )

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been searching for this! August 6, 2007
Someone gave me one of these years ago, and it has been the best thing for getting hair out of drains. It's narrow, flexible, and simple to stick down a drain, and the little teeth grab all the hair as it comes up. I'm sure there are other tools that are better for serious clogs, but this was great for preventing small clogs from ever becoming big ones. The one I had finally broke this past year, and my small clogs keep escalating.

I've been searching for another one. I had no idea what it was called and haven't been able to find it in the local hardware stores. I have only finally found it here after searching through pages and pages of drain cleaning tools. I definitely recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars DO THIS FIRST! May 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm a very unskilled home owner. I pretty much hire a professional for almost everything in my house. Recently, my shower started draining more slowly. I thought about buying Draino or something equivalent so I came on Amazon to find the right product before hiring a plumber. I found this amazing stick and decided to try it because it's so cheap! I received it about 20 minutes ago and decided to try it now... the second I put it in and pulled it out, I cleared the clog! A TON of hair and disgusting gross-ness, but this $4 stick cleared the whole thing in less than 2 minutes. It's easy: stick it in and pull it out. I did it about 5 times (pulling gunk each time). I threw away the gunk, rinsed the stick and ran the shower for 5 minutes to verify that all was clear - and it was! Here I am, 20 minutes later writing a review for this amazing product. I never write reviews, but this is just too amazing to not share.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work In Every Case November 6, 2009
It only costs a few dollars so there is not much to lose if it doesn't work.

Zip It may not work for bathtub drains.
Zip It does not work for deep clogs (even in a sink).
Zip It is a nightmare to get the Zip It to go DOWN instead of UP the drain of a bathtub and is too short to reach the clog if using the overflow drain.
Zip It will not work if the clog is something the little spikes cannot catch (like something too soapy or greasy)
Zip It may not work if your older home has a different pipe set up
Zip It is weak and bends easily. This may be why it sometimes takes awhile (up to 15 minutes according to one reviewer or not at all) to get the Zip it around or through some clogs to grab it.

To be fair, this bathtub clog defied not just the Zip It but 6 types of plungers: 2 different rubber type/sizes and 4 different types of plastic accordion type plungers purchased from a plumbers website. Yes the overflow outlet was covered securely while plunging. One of the accordion plungers loosened the clog but also pushed it further down the drain. CLR Power Plumber pushed the clog down further also but did not clear it.

Drano was already known to be worthless from years past experience so going the natural route, a HUGE box of baking soda, gallon of vinegar and boiling hot water was poured into the bathtub drain TWICE. Lot of steam and foam but no dice on the clog.

Driven by desperation, it was back to Home Depot and they only supplied a few plungers already used. There was a man with a plumber company shirt on in the aisle and I asked him what to do short of calling a plumber. He picked up a bottle of INSTANT POWER HAIR & GREASE drain cleaner from Scotch Corporation.

The bathtub drained almost immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than anything
This is the best thing ever! I wish every product was as simple, easy to use, and effective as the Zip-It. Way cheaper than paying a plumber or renting a snake.
