I have a pair of these radios and they worked great on my camping trip miles apart in the forest. I often use them for various outdoor activities when I don't want to endanger my more expensive radios.
If you know anything about radios, then you will have no problems using these. If you know the difference between frs and gmrs, know that using a radio inside a metal box (like a car or Faraday cage) will produce unsatisfactory results, and understand basic fundamental principles of radio (such as line-of-sight and battery power) then you will enjoy this handy, feature rich unit. Or if you are the kind of person for example who's knowledge of auto mechanics is limited to "Turn key, press gas" then you will probably have trouble with this or any radio -- do yourself a favor and stay within cell phone range and out of harm's way so competent people don't have to rescue you.

Thoroughly Disappointed with Lack of Range,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cobra microTalk CXR725 27-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radios (Electronics)
When I was a kid, I had a pair or 2-mile two-way radios. They barely worked a half mile apart, even in a clear, flat area. These 27-mile radios are roughly the same, ten years later. On an open highway, when I could still see the vehicle in front of me which had the other radio, I was unable to communicate with it. Somewhere around a half mile these radios become useless. That obviously disappointed me, because I could have paid half as much and gotten the same range in reality.
Other than a total lack of range, the digital readout and neat features like ringtones for sending a call notice make these pretty slick radios. Good size and weight, and the square shape is less likely to slip out of your hand. Batteries last long enough to not be a hassle.
