I came across this while initially searching for a quality MP3 player for my son that could maybe "do a little more". This mini wifi tablet seemed to offer so many additional features than a basic mp3 player without much more cost (and, if it works, will potentially provide many of the same features as larger tablets with much less cost!!) With no reviews anywhere yet to be found online, I took the gamble. So here's the initial review:

I must say, so far I am quite pleased with my initial feature testing out of the box, before handing it over to my son. The size is nice - a little bigger than a phone but still easy to hold in one hand. Touch sensitivity is remarkably on point; sound quality with headphones is good (the mono external speaker does not get very loud but is sufficient for personal use). Video playback is clear. I was able to plug in & drag and drop songs from my iMac without issue. The camera/video is ok -- the microphone is mediocre but it will serve the basic purpose. Once connected to WiFi I was able to download Angry Birds from preloaded GetJar, browse, navigate some kid sites my son uses, view videos on Youtube, etc. (some lag, which improved depending on proximity to router). Note: would not initially connect to the secured home Wifi via scan/password (reading authentication error) but an Android troubleshooting blog suggested entering network info in once manually through "Add Network" rather than through scanning ; this worked and we've had no trouble since.

So far, it has done everything I'm expecting it to do for the size and price. I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" and I'm happy to say now I'll be "handing it over" a lot less to my son, it seems. Without some of the "name brand" applications installed you will have to do a little more work to get what you want on the tablet out of the box; I imagine I'll be doing most of the preloading etc. for my son but for its purpose I think he is going to love it. If you are someone who is tired of handing off your smart phone or tablet to your child when you want to be using it yourself (or you don't HAVE a smart phone/tablet and want an inexpensive basic portable media device able to browse the internet with a wifi connection) this product may be for you. Be realistic with your price-point expectations (don't expect a mini ipad), and I don't think you'll be disappointed. That being said, the features do seem somewhat in line with a stripped down, but less pricey version of an ipod touch.

Overall impression: if this keeps on chugging as it has begun, I will be quite happy with it and feel it was a very good deal. You could certainly spend more out there and get less, but I don't think you could spend much less and get more than this little tablet offers.

As it is still early in ownership, if issues come up I will update this review.

Update: Still quite happy with it! 1Mobile Market is a good app store with this tablet as it is not compatible with google play.

I was surprised at how fast this little gadget performed in loading its apps and the Internet. The only problem I had with it was keeping it away from my wife. I lost that battle;(

Let's start with the bad stuff...
1. It can't charge while it's on. So if you want to use it and have it plugged in to charge, it won't work.
2. Very slow. Web browsing with this thing is frustrating, and don't even consider the possibility of watching videos on it. I got netflix to work precisely once, and no other videos play on it for some reason. You'll find yourself furiously tapping things over and over again because it doesn't seem to be registering your actions, when it really is, it's just taking forever for it to respond.
3. Bad contrast on the camera. Taking pictures/videos in anything other than a very well lit area will be almost impossible.
4. An SD card is a MUST, more than 75% of the onboard memory is taken.
5. No access to Google Play store, download Amazon Store or 1Mobile instead.
6. Tiny screen and a very finite amount of zooming out make navigation on web pages and in files/folders a bitch.
7. Short battery life, lasts maybe 3 hours on constant use, and it gets noticeably hot.
8. External speaker can't handle anything too loud, or else it sounds very staticy.

Now the good, for people who were not dissuaded by the bad.
1. Compact, and very easy to carry in your pocket.
2. Inconspicuous, for those of you going to school and wanting to use it in class.
3. Fairly sturdy, I've dropped it once or twice and it's suffered no more than cosmetic damage on the case and not the screen.
4. Perfect size for those wanting to emulate gameboy and GBA games (which is what I bought it for in the first place).

Obviously the cons outweigh the pros, but I can live with the cons are they're more annoying than dealbreakers to me, plus, when I'm just playing my emulated games I don't notice any of the cons besides the battery life issue. So... if you're willing to put up with some annoyances, it's serviceable. Mainly, for me, the small form factor and low price are what sell it.

First off, it costs 50$. So no, you can't compare it to a much more expensive iPod touch, Galaxy Player, or to a full-size tablet. Let's get that out of the way.

That being said, for the price, *and* once you have installed 1Mobile Market (the best available in my opinion outside of Google Play) it works really, really good and has no real competition as regular MP3 players usually retail for the same price. The screen resolution is totally adequate for casual gaming, music and the like although it is difficult to read when browsing. Fit and finish is a notch above my older Coby tablet, and the firmware has been updated too. The 2MP camera is more of a gadget but good for a quick snap (the tablet works with Flickr, Instagram, Facebook).

I use it on the go as a 32gb MP3 player thanks to the microSD capacity (true, a 20$ addition but it doesn't hurt the value of the device too much), but I also put all the mobile games I have on my regular tablet.

All in all it's a really neat gadget I recommend to people willing to update their MP3 player, looking for a casual gaming solution for the bus and metro, and/or for kids!

My six year old grandchildren can work with the coby very well. The coby does so much more than games, it takes pictures, videos and they love it.

I bought this as a cheapo replacement after my kids dropped my Kindle! Talk about frustration! I downloaded the Amazon App and then the Kindle app and was happy to have my books back! I was able to get on Facebook and installed a few games for the kids. After a while it wouldn't charge and I misplaced it but recently found it. I tried charging it using a new cable and it works just fine. Since I had already gotten myself a tablet I decided to wipe this one clean and start over and have my kids use it. They are 4,5, and 7. It is perfect size for their hands. I have mini SD card in it. It is a MUST! They play without a problem. Pet Shop Story, Zoo Story, Panda Hospital, Moby Max, and even access Reading Eggs online. They have a few more games that they play. I had Netflix on it but really isn't very compatible. They do watch You tube videos but only when I am with them. The only problem that I seem to have is that it does not load the Amazon Market place to my account. Usually that's not a problem though. They also have their own Kindle App and Library. I like that it was cheap enough to not freak out over if something happens to it. I am looking for a case but have not found a kid friendly one yet. No, its not an Ipad or Kindle but for the price I am very happy with it! Its a great starter tablet. I thought about getting one of the kid tablets but they really seem to like this and I don't worry about the internet speed because quite frankly they have no business online anyway.

Bought mainly as a replacement for my old media player, but wanted something that would do just a little bit more. I don't have a smartphone so this was an interesting choice. Given that I mainly wanted a good touch screen media player, this was an excellent choice for the price.

Pros: Comes with USB cable and wall adapter that can be used with other tablets that have the rounded mini-usb port. The touch screen is very responsive. Video playback is smooth and dispite the low resolution of the screen the image is quite good. Clear and bright. Certainly enough to see in all but the most direct sunlight. Apps used to come via getjar...thankfully coby is getting away from that. New store is much better. Volume is more than loud enough. Easy to learn, mostly logical interface and pre-installed apps. Visually, the bezel seemed a little large at first, but is a necessity for holding on to. I could wish for a kickstand or wrist loop.

Cons:
the 4gb is mostly taken up by the OS (leaving approx 1.5g usable space left). That's 2/3 of your usable space that you'll never get to use. Coby is not the only company by any means to market this way, but the practice is deceptive and should be stopped. An SD card should be considered essential with this model, so work that into the cost.

There is a loud volume "hit" as the audio initalizes during startup, so make sure your headphones are off. For some reason all my tracks in the media player are listed 3 times. I suspect downloading a new player would fix this. The wifi radio seems a little weak. Don't expect miracles from the camera either. I have other minor nitpicks about the logic of navigation and file access, but I suspect they are app related and will be trying other apps to see if they get better.

All this aside I'm happy with my purchase for my purposes. I see no need to pay extra for the 8gb one when you can insert a 32gb card for half the price. Of the 4.3 inch tablets out there, this was the only one with a multi-touch capacitive screen that I could find. That makes all the difference and makes this a worthwhile product.

The screen is pretty small and the resolution could use some work. It did not pick up my sd card so I had to connect to my computer to load my music files. I had problems with it turning on initially. I wouldn't recommend purchasing.

Wish it would take apps from the play store instead of amazon.com. In particular the DirecTV app doesn't have the same functionality as the play store version.

I've had it two months and don't understand some of the complaints I've read. I wanted a low-budget, mini-mini tablet (shirt pocket size) mainly for e-reading and note taking. It serves those purposes nicely. Good battery life; doesn't lose a charge if unused for extended periods. It's comparatively slow when maneuvering online, but I rarely use it online--mainly just to look for and download books and apps. I've viewed YouTube videos on it; excellent sound and display.
