Poor value, mediocre product,
By Andy Boze (South Bend, IN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coby CX-CD375 Micro Stereo System with Top-Loading CD Player (Electronics)
I bought this on impulse at a major department store just after Xmas, marked down allegedly 50%. Turns out the sale price was still a couple of dollars more than Amazon's regular price. I can't say I'm sorry I bought it, since my needs are pretty minimal, though for another 20 or 30 dollars, I could have gotten a player with much better features.
Contrary to another reviewer, I find that the sound quality is quite good (for an inexpensive player). Unfortunately, the manual is written in the stereotypical bad Chinese-to-English translation, and it neglects to include any instructions at all for connecting the speakers. The ends of the speaker wires are bare wire with no plugs, so you can't tell which wire in each pair is positive and which is negative. I seem to recall from hooking up an old stereo that the wire with the stripe is positive, so that's how I hooked up the speakers for this unit. If the sound quality is poor for you, you might try checking how the speakers are connected. The radio/CD selection is controled only by a switch on the top of the unit, not on the remote. So, if the switch is set to radio, the remote can only turn on or off the device. If the switch is set to CD, then the remote allows full control of the CD player. I find it annoying that I can't use the remote to switch between CD and radio or to tune the radio. If I had known that before I bought the unit, I wouldn't have bought it. I don't use it enough that it's a big problem. Unless you can't afford more than this, I'd suggest spending an additional 30 dollars, which will get you a machine that can hold up to 3 CDs and a remote that controls all the functions of the unit.

Not recommended...,
This review is from: Coby CX-CD375 Micro Stereo System with Top-Loading CD Player (Electronics)
This thing is horrible. My parents bought me this for my room. At first I was excited but eventually became diassapointed.
PROS: *Nice blue blacklight *Good sound quality *Cheap *Two speakers included CONS: *Bass Boost is HORRIBLE. If you want some good bass don't get this product *Doesn't have any presets *Doesn't show what time it is *Bad manual *Sometimes doesn't read my CD's *Control is useless: Only has CD player functions *If you're listening while on your bed, you're going to have to get up and switch modes to CD or FM radio because you can't with the remote Also I've had it for about 3 months and now the blacklight doesn't work anymore...

JUNK,
This review is from: Coby CX-CD375 Micro Stereo System with Top-Loading CD Player (Electronics)
I was looking for a compact decent sounding stereo for my kitchen and bought this thinking it would be great to install on the wall. After about a month it sporadically stopped reading the cd's and now after 6 months you can't get thru more than 60 seconds of a cd before it stops. This morning I tossed it in the trash where it belongs.
