I would strongly recommend this small b/w TV to anyone concerned with price and good quality. Even though the FEDEX guy threw the box onto my balcony (hitting the cement floor), it was intact when I opened it ... I heard the bang, not the doorbell. I was pleasantly surprised at being able to get channels with the existing antenna, but I did... very nice, clear picture and excellent sound. Mind you, it's not a stereo for parties! I will now have a little more peace of mind when the electric goes out during the normal stormy season, hurricane season. I spent three days with only a radio when we lost power due to hurricane Katrina. It was frightening to hear --but not see-- what was going on, and there was NO way I was going to stick my head out the door to see the storm while it was going on outside. That is what I bought it for, peace of mind; that, and to have something to do while I'm sitting in my car waiting for my classes to begin whenever I arrive at the campus early.

It would be hard to find a usable TV cheaper. I bought 2 of these along with 2 CyberHome CH-DVD 300S mini DVD players (about $35 each) to use for my video show I do outdoors & in clubs. Just as a DJ needs headphones to cue up the song, a VJ needs monitors to cue-up & find the spot on the DVD to play on the big screen (two 26-foot wide screens).
Unlike many portables, these do have A/V jacks in the back to plug equipment into. So I send the RCA jack from the players to the TVs, then use the component or s-video jacks to send the video to a switch box going to the DLP projectors. Oh, I have color LCD portables... just the type of thing someone will walk off with if your back is turned or break banging around on the road... at $199 each! Also, unlike LCD TVs, I can see the picture clearly when I'm off on an angle from the front of the TV. I can fit the 2 players, 1 projector, the 2 TVs, cords, & DVDs in 1 backpack! They've been running 6 hours a night, 4 nights a week in extremely hot & cold conditions. They've been upacked, banged around, & repacked tight 4 nights a week. They still work fine. On movie night, I've either seen the movie or it bores me to death. In my projection booth I can tune in the local TV & radio stations during the movie to pass the time. Reception is acceptable but worse than a $200 unit. The TVs are sensitive to RFI & not very good with RF image rejection, except for AM... which is average. Otherwise, for the price I would have given it 5 stars. The tuning indicator is almost impossible to see unless the light & you are on a perfect & precise angle. Someday I'll take it apart & paint the tuning indicator white or silver. The tuning knob is really hard to turn. Turning it so hard, sometimes one would skip right over the station as it jumbs from the force needed to turn it. I haven't used batteries in it. I always used AC adapters. I use LCD TVs for running on batteries, the batteries will last much longer. All CRT TVs will use up batteries real fast... even high capcity batteries.

This is an excellent buy for the price. I can find nothing wrong except when I use the tuning dial, I have to hold the tv because the tuner is hard to turn and the tv slides to the left. Of course, if you don't mind your set sliding to the left, this will not be a problem for you.
