Warning,
This review is from: Coby Clip 1 GB MP3 Player with Flash Memory (Blue) (Electronics)
This product looks great, but seems to be just a piece of non functioning plastic. The idea of it is pretty great, light and simple. However, the one I received did not work. I tried it on 4 computers, all did not recognize it and thus could not use it. I called Coby and they just told me that its a great product and that I just happened to get a defective one and that they could offer me no help. Luckily, Amazon let me return it for a refund. So if you are willing to take a chance that it might work for you, then go for it, but if not I would not choose this product.

I bought this player and when it arrived, it was defective. wouldn't charge, wouldn't even detect in XP or Vista. Got an exchange and the replacement was ALSO a dud. Unless the buyer knew they were purchasing a pallet full of duds and trying to make a quick buck (it happens), Coby is a no-brainer.Don't buy this brand. I think they might spit out a good one per 1000 of product but that's an optimistic total.

This review is from: Coby Clip 1 GB MP3 Player with Flash Memory (Black) (Electronics)
I plugged it in (a flash player plug and play) usb device not recognised which I thought was odd and as luck would have it no driver ( I know plug and play flash drive doesnt need a driver) I havent been able to get it to work at all I have tried it on multiple computers running multiple os (xp vista) nothing. It looks great is light and I love the clip deal, If you can get it to work I am sure it is a wonderful product but, being brand new and non working this is the last product from this maker I am willing to buy. I hope your experience is better than mine.

The MP3 player doesn't have any bells or whistles but does the job that it is designed for (playing MP3 songs) admirably. The clip makes it easy to use in any situation and the rechargeable battery saves on battery costs. The player doesn't use iTunes software which is a plus for me. You can transfer songs from and to the player just as you would for a thumb drive.

How unfortuante...,
This review is from: Coby Clip 1 GB MP3 Player with Flash Memory (Red) (Electronics)
I was hoping this new clip would solve the ONLY issue I had with the older version. This new model puts the headphone jack and USB port far apart. The Coby MP-C582 series style has one major design flaw. It's avoidable, but you don't see it until it's too late and it's easy to forget about. These Coby MP-C582 players have the USB charger port and the headphone jack just enough too close together that they put enough stress on each other to cause damage to the jack. Once the damage occurs, the jack cuts out from time to time.
***Why did I put this review here?*** People are saying Coby is junk. I still have several fully functioning MP-C582 clips. You can read my reviews on them for more specifics how I am using them. I have had a couple go south on me, but I put them through heavy use in harsh conditions, I had to learn not to plug in the USB and jack at the same time, and they are plenty old enough to expect the battery to stop holding a charge. Do not bother wasting time with this new version. I don't know what went wrong with it, but too many people say it is junk. The Coby MP-C582 series is fine if you just remember not to try and plug in the adapter and jack at the same time. I love mine and I certainly got my money's worth in use and hassle free enjoyment out of them!

Good player for the price,
This review is from: Coby Clip 2 GB MP3 Player with Flash Memory (Black) (Electronics)
Perhaps I was lucky but thought I should add a positive review for this product. First after five months of heavy use (I run 25 miles a week), there has not been a single problem with the player. The battery has held the charge and my computer (XP) has always recognized it. To the former problem, I have to wonder whether some users full charge the unit the first time. This is a common mistake, especially for kids who are impatient. It's even more important at this price, since obviously the player's battery is of budget quality.
As for the player and its operation, I have loved it for running and the gym. The operation is intuitive with the single stick. Thus I never have to look at the unit to skip a song, increase vol. etc.. The Coby is lightweight with a strong clip, so it can be tacked onto any piece of clothing with no fuss. All in all, I would say it's the best exercise player I have ever used, with a history that has included the venerable shuffle, Sansa Clip, and several lightweight Sony's. The player is far from perfect however. Coby's sluggish software would be at the top. Transfer rates are agonizingly slow. I found the workaround where I added folders/files directly to the drive via My Computer, instead of waiting on the software. I would much of preferred drag/drop and basic folder management. The sound is thin and tinny, but really for under twenty dollars, I don't think one would be greedy to expect more. Battery life is not exceptional. A full charge will last around 6-7 hours for me. Thus one can't forget about the player for weeks at a time. Once again considering the amount asked, that's a very small qualm. In summary, this a five star product for operation during exercise; below average for software interface and sound quality. Added together with one more important factor - price point, my rating is a solid 4 stars.

Excellent Mp3 player for price, don't listen to the bad reviews,
This review is from: Coby Clip 1 GB MP3 Player with Flash Memory (Black) (Electronics)
I was a bit weary about getting this mp3 player because of all the bad reviews. You just have to know how to set it up on your computer. This mp3 player is very stylish and can clip onto your pants or shirt and weighs next to nothing. Flipping through songs is easy as well. Only bad thing is that it doesn't have an LCD Screen, but those usually go bad on mp3 players that's why I didn't want one. Now on to the controversy. A lot of people had connection issues with this player. I actually did at first also, then I formatted the drive using Windows and it worked fine. I have Windows 7 on a 64-bit OS. My system is known to be the worst out of even Vista now because of compatibility isn't quite there yet. But for the most part my system runs excellent. So after I formatted it, I began to add songs and they got on there just perfect. By the way I got the 2gb version, so I'm not sure about the 1gb version but it should work the same. All in all I love this thing..

Looks good - doesn't work,

We received 2 of these as gifts. Both failed within a day. One won't hold a charge, the other just doesn't do anything. Worse, the one that wouldn't charge drew so much current it blew my USB port.
It looks great. Perfect for the kids. Be nice if they worked. |
