I won this DVD player as a prize for a sales competition at my work. I wasn't complaining--I was going to move into the dorms soon and needed one anyways. Still, it didn't take long for me to find difficulties with it.
First of all, within a few days it failed to react to anything except through remote control. The buttons on the unit itself are in a confusing array anyways, but I also feel they were too close together that they eventually just fall apart from use.
Secondly, it didn't take very long before the DVD would start skipping during chapter transitions--even if it was mint condition from the box. Now I found I could still watch the DVD if I stopped, then started it again. But remember: I can't do that on the set itself, I have to use the remote... Soon I found myself required to watch a DVD with remote on hand.
Finally, it started getting to the point where stopping the DVD for any reason wouldn't guarantee that it'd start again at the the point where it was stopped. Thus, I'd have to pause... except reflect on problem two. That problem couldn't be fixed without stopping the DVD. Thus problems would pile up to the point where it was not really a guarantee whether I could even finish a film at all.
By now, I only use the DVD player to watch mint-condition DVDs that are short. If I rent a movie or watch a movie longer than two hours, I don't even bother trying. I'm going to toss it soon, but since I have started using my computer to watch rentals and longer DVDs, I'm not really in a hurry to do anything, so I have a pretty shiny paperweight at that end of the desk...

Player ok for price, but reliability is questionable., June 26, 2005
This review is from: Coby DVD-215 SUPER SLIM PROGRESSIVE SCAN DVD PLAYER (Electronics)
I got this player for 25 bucks, and was happy to see that it can accept any format disks you thow at it. However it failed in 6 months and few days.
Coby probably knows the reliability and hence only warrant it for 90 days.
I think its wiser to just spend some more money and get a name brand, they are robust and last till they are outdated by technology and not due to failure of cheap components used.

I picked this up cheap as a bedroom dvd player. It barely gets used, and I don't use it's progressive scan function, much less stereo sound (plugged into a mono 19" TV), but it's been working fine without any skips or errors. My two biggest problems are in the design: 1) There is no led indication when the unit is powered on, so I can't tell if I've succesfully turned it off or not (there are only 3 leds on the unit that power on only during playback of dvd's/cd's/mp3's). 2) The remote is layed out extremely poorly. the eject button is where the power should be (the power button is a small grey button, like all the rest, hidden on the upper left, while the eject is a large red button on the upper right). The rest of the buttons are also indistinguishable by feel, so good lighting is always required when hunting for the pause or other buttons. But for the price...
