I bought this player for it's Dolby 5.1 capabilities. I have a surround sound stereo system I purchased in the 90's that I wanted to run a DVD player on but all the players now have different audio cables that aren't compatible with mine since I needed the 5 seperate RCA jacks to plug into my stereo. This player has seperate jacks for front and rear left and right channels plus sub and center channels. It hooked up and played right out of the box. The player works well and I've had no issues with watching DVD's. There is good functionality built into the unit as far as making adjustments to audio and video settings. My only complaint is the supplied remote control is not really laid out very well. In the dark it's hard to find the correct buttons since they're all the same size and in a grid layout but that is really a small concern. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase since it saved me from having to buy a whole new system to get surround sound.

Well, my nice little DVD player officially has broken on me about 6 months after purchase. I used it one day and it worked fine and then the next day it wouldn't load any DVD's. I checked and the Coby USA website says the company only offers a 90 day warranty on their electronics. I guess I am just out of luck but I should have expected this from a $30.00 machine, I suppose. Well, it worked great while it lasted. I guess I will finally have to spend a little money and upgrade my A/V system to something from this millenium - HA HA!! - my old stereo was from the mid 1990's!

I agree with S. Delaney that the remote's buttons are not the best; I also have to add that I really have to press the buttons to have the unit recognize the button press. Otherwise, this was easy to set up. I just received this player yesterday, and am already enjoying dvds. I still haven't read the manual, as I am technologically-minded. GREAT dvd player!

Nice little DVD player... but I can't seem to get it to go region free. Tried the 514M instructions as well as the SETUP / Vol+ / Vol- / Vol+ / Vol- process.

i was looking for a player that played mpg files from cdr and this player did it at a really good price...am going to get a second one

This DVD player does not work as well as others I have owned, even cheap ones. If has difficulty reading a lot of discs, even some new ones. It sounds like it is self destructing when it opens and closes, time will tell if it is durable or not, but that is not very promising. Also, instructions were pretty minimal, and I cannot find a resume play feature for it to pick up where you left off watching a DVD, unless you leave it on and in the pause mode. Even other cheap units I have owned had this resume play feature. I am editing this review 3 months after I first wrote it, and will just follow up by saying this thing is a piece of junk, and that is not even the word I would like to use.

This unit is definately worth the bucks. It's my second one to order. Works just fine, no complaints at all, and it has proven to be long lasting. The only reason I bought a second unit was so I could have one for the bedroom as well.

I had an old Coby DVD 5.1 which died on me and since I had the speakers all I needed was just the DVD player. Every place I went I could not find one to attach all my speakers to. So I went online to the Coby Website and saw exactly what I needed and found it on Amazon. I only had it for a couple of weeks, I have not had any problems with it. Hooking it up was easy, I hate reading instructions. The picture and the sound is perfect and the price was good.

I bought this DVD player to replace another Coby DVD player. The #1 reason I bought this unit was the size. A bigger player wouldn't have fit in the space I needed to put it. This one fits perfectly on top of a bookshelf.

Obviously, for the tiny price, you don't get a lot of features. It is a basic player. But it works just fine for my purposes: playing exercise DVDs in my home office.

My only gripe is that mine came with a large sticker on the top of the unit with "common troubleshooting" solutions. It is a BIG red and yellow sticker and it doesn't come off easily. I tried to carefully peel it off but gave up when it became clear that I wouldn't get it off without some serious painstaking effort. I just put something on top of it to try to cover the label up.

I ordered this DVD player .....but it was dead on arrival. Guess I won't be ordering any more electronics from Amazon again.
