OK ! If you're like me, you read all of the reviews to get a sense of whether or not the item would suit your needs.
While reading the reviews, I noticed that a couple of people said that the DVD player stopped working also mentioned was a remote not working.

With that said, here is my take:
The batteries that came with it for the remote were dead.
Once I put in fresh batteries the remote worked just fine.
I bought this unit mainly for the sound and I was very happily surprised how good it is.
The sound is rich and clear. It sounds better than some units costing more than twice as much.
Seriously; This unit is worth much more than the selling price.
Amazingly this unit even have a USB port and a card reader along with a AM/FM Radio and DVD player.
Setup is a breeze. The unit is hefty and very well made.

I never thought that I could get such a great unit for such an extremely low price.
If you buy this unit. You will not be disappointed.

BTW: Someone rated this unit as 1 star due to shipping issues, which brought the overall rating down.
Shipping issues has nothing whatsoever to do with the unit itself and should not have been posted here in the reviews section.

Looks and sounds good, people notice it. It's hefty so be sure you have a secure place to put it. Missing HDMI port (ouch), apparently only supports FAT file format for USB drives/keys. On mine, the plastic covering the optical and s-video ports was mis-aligned so I had to trim them to get the cables to go in. USB and DVD share output, so you have to umplug USB to use the DVD.

This is a great product however Coby Electronics has a non existing customer service their service is awfull.

Easy to set up, sounds good. Within a month the DVD stopped working. It just eject the DVDs automatically and leaves marks on them. Support was no help. I had to buy a standalone player to replace the functionality.

I had read the reviews online about this particular sound unit. They didn't give a very favorable picture of it. I decided to give it a chance because of its reasonable price tag. After ordering online, I actually tried to cancel the order. However, it had already been shipped. When I received it, I figured I might as well set it up and see how it worked. I was almost shocked that everything worked perfectly. I've had no trouble with it at all. The DVD player works, the speakers are very good -- far superior to the TV's speakers. The remote works although I wasn't able to have my cable remote and the Colby system communicate, so I do have to use both remotes. Definitely not a hardship. The equipment is not state-of-the-art, however it was only a fraction of the cost of what state-of-the-art systems are going for these days. I feel like I got a fair price for an acceptable unit. I wish I would have bought this sooner. I am not a sound expert, but this is just great. It makes my big tv so much better, it's a big improvement over the speakers on the tv...fast shipping and arrived in great condition...

i recieved this soundbar and had to purchase the rca cables hoping i have tv audio threw the speakers, nope nothing. long story short i spent two days calling coby customer service (what a joke) for them to keep me on hold an hour each time and them to just end up saying "well looks like you have a defective system send it back to amazon." go with the vizio soundbar, hooks up easier and works.

I got this to replace the tiny speakers in my tv. I watched 2 dvds the first night I got it. Then tried to watch a dvd the next day and nothing happened. The dvd would slide in the slot,but never played again. The remote never worked but I got my Harmony remote to work it. The speakers sound awesome. Lots of bass and very loud. I don't really miss the dvd player since I already had a ps3 hooked up to my tv. Plus I have my ipod touch hooked up to it.

I really love the all-in one concept this sytem provides and it is a great value for the price, but the size is so big it exceeds the soundbar status and is more like a "soundbox". Make sure you measure your space and check the specs. to verify size;have somewhere to place it before you buy it. It does come with mounting supplies, but you may not have the option. Outside of the box it takes up the majority of my mantle sitting about 37 inches wide x 10 inches high and 7 inches deep.
The sound is Ok, depending on what you want your speakers to sound like. I think it has a loud and clear sound, and it's a lot better than my TV speakers, but I dont think it has much bass.

I was looking forward to using this unit (Coby DVD988), but unfortunately only the video worked on the unit. The sound on the unit was dead.
