The key to the Colby player is to manage your expectations. The player will play music, pictures, and movies - but it is a far cry from an iPod Nano. The player holds 2GB of data and does have decent audio playback.

Things to consider

+Can be used to store photos - Who needs a keychain that can hold 2 or 3 pictures when the Colby can hold thousands!
+ Small size - very portable
+ Nice features - will play videos!
+ 2GB means that you can hold thousands of music files
+ Software makes it easy to rip cds to the Colby - you can choose individual songs or the entire cd
+ Great price - I mean a really great price!

Areas for improvement

- The FM radio only seemed to pick-up one station
- As expected - it is completely incompatible with iTunes. Meaning if you have a large iTunes library you will have limited luck transfering those files over to your Colby.
- Flimsy - I wonder about long-term reliability
- Playlist system is lacking - I mainly sort using Genres
- Toggling between menus is not that intuitive (in my opinion)

Final verdict - yes, there are some drawbacks - these drawbacks would be huge if the Colby player was priced the same as other media players. It is not, and your expectations should be guarded. The device will hold and play 2Gb of media and offers a display for the cost of a standard 16GB FLASH DRIVE! It is a nice cheap alternative for those who really just need a way to store and show a few pictures or wants a cheap media player for the gym.

This MP3 player has great features and a great price, and when it works it does the job nicely. Unfortunately, the one I bought freezes again and again and I've had to use the "reset" button frequently.

bought this for my girlfriend. she likes that its small and very light and also easy to use. the one complaint is the battery life; its poor.

This was bought for my granddaughter to play audiobooks from my local public library. She enjoyed listening to them on my iPod that I thought I would get her a device of her own to play them. Not wanting to put out the money for an iPod for a four year old I read reviews and decided to try a Coby. When I tried to load the books only one or two loaded (they were all loaded and played very well on my iPod). When I called customer service I was told there was nothing I could do - there was something wrong with the library books. The operator said maybe they loaded on the iPod, but there was no way they would load on the Coby because there was something wrong with the book. With help like that there was nothing to do so I returned the device. She is getting an iPod. Not only will it work, it has better support and is sturdier. The Coby was made of cheap plastic and felt like it would shatter if you dropped it once. I wouldn't even rate this one star but I had to so it would register.

I bought this thing to replace a Creative Zen Stone I lost. It's ok so far, but don't believe what the package claims it can do. It's a good buy for an mp3 player, but I have not been able to get any video or e-books to work, using multiple formats for each, and reencoding video to .mtv format (which is not very easy to find.)

If you want this thing, the price is right, but it's just an mp3 player. Look at it that way, and you won't be too disappointed.

The player is pretty good for being so small. It seems a litte light and cheap but i don't think it is. Overall a decent mp3 player for the price.

first off anyone complaining here shouldn't have expected all the features! this is a low cost player. buuuuut .. it sounds simply amazing!

heres my review and experience,

just bought the Coby MP600 2G mp3 player .. have to say i love it! sounds awsome. and so easy to use. well the ear bud phones that came with it went in the garbage so i did have to use my own $20 Sony MDR-G57 head phones to get a good sound but hey for the price .. lovin it! Sony makes the best head phones! i only play music with it so dont use other features .. radio is very nice too , simple to use and sounds very good. i actually am amazed how good this little player sounds with my Sony head set. drag and drop your files and good to go .. to make a play list use the music organizing software that comes with it and select the songs for a play list and name it in genre Craigs fav or whatever .. ez. lovin it! off to Hawaii to test the battery life :)

just an update - just got back from Hawaii .. i looove this thing! sound is amazing on my Sony head phones. and the battery life is amazing .. it states a 12 play time .. well i went almost a week before having to recharge it! 25 hours of use .. i swear I thought maybe i got a magic one .. battery just kept going :) love it .. easy to use .. sounds excellent. i use it for music only. this is all i need baby .. cant beat it for $25 on sale .. fantastic device. 2 big thumbs up for Coby .. i got a ton of mp3's on my 2 gb Mp-600 (like 400 songs ) and to set a few play lists is easy use the manager and select a bunch of songs (clcik em .. holding cntl key down and right click one and set a custom genre like craigs 1 .. will tag all songs selected .. then on the player go to genre and find your play list. ez .. you want something with all the bells and whistles this ones not for you .. you want a great sounding mp3 player at a great price that just plays and plays and plays .. this is the one baby. I absolutely love it.

This player comes with software for both Windows and Mac OS X. Amazon MP3s are easy to put onto the player. So are MP3s from iTunes. Claims to play videos, but I haven't put any on it.
Its only draw back is that it tends to easily lockup; however, unlike may MP3 players, Coby has provided a reset switch which can be activated by using a staple or paper clip. Other cheap MP3 players have to be reloaded with software, often at the factory.
Battery life is a bit limiting: only giving several playing hours per charge. Pretty good for about $25.

Fast shipping. My 14 yr. old son seems to have no complaints. He was able to figure out how to use it on his own, and really seems to like it.

I bought these as a christmas present for my daughters age 11 and 14. They absolutely love them. The sound quality is good and I've even thought about buying myself one.These were the best gifts ever. Now they use them when doing chores and actually do a better job when they have the mp3 player. The things kids will do to have what they want.
