5.0 out of 5 stars Great design and quality
I bought a few different kinds of little MP3 players after I killed my ipod nano. This is the best overall. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great design and quality, November 21, 2007
This review is from: Coby MP-C582 Clip MP3 Player 1 GB - Black (Electronics)
I bought a few different kinds of little MP3 players after I killed my ipod nano. This is the best overall. I use it fishing on the Pacifc Ocean and for me an MP3 player needs to be able to stay out of my way as I bounce around and off of things. I clip this on the back of my baseball cap where it adjusts. It is thin enough to be comfortable and one charge usually gets me through a day of fishing. Having it on my head it needs to be light weight and it is. I also like that it is inexpensive because there is a good chance I will destroy it while I am fishing.

I am using the buds that came with it and they work fine for me. The ONLY thing I would like to see changed is for them to make the USB adapter a little longer so it doesn't fight with the headphone plug in. 1GB is perfect for me because I can just buy a few and have each one hold a playlist.

This order is my 2nd one, which was supposed to be Black but looks like it will be Silver *again* which isn't going to help me keep them apart... It turns out none of my early concerns about it were valid. The spring has held up to heavy use and abuse and I think I'd rather have more than bigger or with a heavier battery. I'll probably buy a few more for myself after Christmas and I'll be getting a few of them as gifts for people next year (I have to get them switched over to digital music first!) I don't normally gush over material objects, but these things are about perfect IMO.

This thing is a great lightweight, tiny in size powerhouse. Easy to add music and sound is superb, although I recomend jvc earbuds as the included dont hit the highs as well. This things perfect for use while at the gym. Worth the price and will be ordering some for Christmas gifts as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for what you pay for..;..., November 27, 2010
This review is from: Coby MP-C582 Clip MP3 Player 1 GB - Black (Electronics)
I purchased my first two at Krogers for 14.99 each. I have had them for several years and sold one to a friend. I wish I kept the other one because I need a few to use as christmass gifts. I think that the ease of use was a plus. It looks like a flash drive on the computer and works pretty well. The battery life is ok for what you pay for it. I would likely buy others for gifts this year. The only drawback is the earphones are smaller. If you loose the adapter that it comes with you will not be able to replace the ones you have with it easly. Keep the extras in a place that the parts will not disapear.

5.0 out of 5 stars coby clip mp 3 player, October 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Coby MP-C582 Clip MP3 Player 1 GB - Black (Electronics)
excellent sound quality, better than I expected. no frills, plays music in order loaded or random. instruction manual poor but good one is online and customer service at coby is very good- thought something was wrong with mine but found it wasn't playing 'cause I was pausing it without realizing it(duh). love that it's so small, I clip it to my blouse and have music when I'm out in my power chair and 4-5 mph isn't so boring with music! good basic player, inexpensive and simple for a senior person unfamiliar with the tecnology!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, January 2, 2009

The only negative thing I have to say regarding the MP3 player is the buttons. Very easy to hit the wrong one. Also, never leave it in your coat pocket or in your purse for use. The buttons get pushed and you run out of battery without knowing it and it is dead when you are ready to use it. Otherwise, it is an excellent player for the price. Holds alot of songs and easy to hook up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Little MP3 Player on the Cheap., August 18, 2008
This review is from: Coby MP-C582 Clip MP3 Player 1 GB - Black (Electronics)
This thing isn't what I'd call a "high-end" device, but considering that only a few years ago a 256MB flash-based MP3 player was hundreds of dollars, this is a nice example of how technological advancements can make things more affordable. For anywhere from ten to twenty-five bucks, you get a 1GB MP3/WMA player. No frills. No screen. No special features. It's just an MP3/WMA player, but it does its job well enough.

On my Mac, this was simple-to-use. No drivers needed. Plug it in to the USB port, and then do the drag-n-drop thing. It can't play iTunes Store music, but if you REALLY want an iTunes Purchase to get on this thing, you need only burn an audio CD of the iTunes Purchases and then rip them as MP3 files from the CD. It's a work-around, but again, this is an el-cheapo player, and for the money you don't get MP4/AAC or the ability to understand DRM protected files. If you need that, check out the iPod Shuffle.

Like the Shuffle, this is designed clip-on to things-- Clothes, mostly. This makes this MP3 player ideal for someone who wants an easy-to-carry, who-cares-if-it-gets-stolen alternative to an iPod. I do happen to have an iPod touch, but I use this thing when I'm on the bus or in a place where I'm not feeling too secure whipping out my hundreds-of-dollars worth of gadget goodness from Apple. This does the job, and I don't care if it breaks, gets dropped, or someone swipes it.

That's not to say it's low quality... It's surprisingly decent for a cheap MP3 player. Sound quality is good, battery life is acceptable (make sure you charge for at least four hours before using it the first time, though, so the battery is properly conditioned!) and it feels solid enough for basic use.

My version of the MP-C582 seems to be a bit different from others. Mine has the 3.5mm headphone jack built-in, and doesn't require an adapter. The mini-USB 2 adapter included is a single solid piece, rather than a cable. Otherwise, it seems to be the same device. I can't speak to how the 2.5mm headphone jack might affect this MP3 player's value, but if you can manage to get the 3.5mm version, it's a decent value.

Seriously-- I've spent more on iPod CASES then I have on this MP3 player. It's well worth the cash, even if you're an iPod/Zune/Zen owner, because it's always nice to have a piece of kit that you can mistreat, toss in a bag, stash in your pocket, and drop without freaking out.

`Makes a good gift, too!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not purchase, August 14, 2008
This review is from: Coby MP-C582 Clip MP3 Player 1 GB - Black (Electronics)
Pros: Holds 1GB
Inexpensive

Cons: No way to tell if it's fully charged
No way to tell when battery is low
Play time is less than two hours at best
Always starts at beginning of playlist whenever you turn it on

Overall: Seems more appropriate to sell at a dollar store

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible product!, May 3, 2008
This review is from: Coby MP-C582 Clip MP3 Player 1 GB - Black (Electronics)
I bought this mp3 player because I wanted the clip function and I didn't want to spend the money for the Ipod. However, this thing worked 2x and never again! Would definitely not recommend this product to anyone. I also emailed Coby to find out if there was anyway to fix it, but I never got an answer and their website was useless. Very disappointed customer!

I purchased this item since its form factor was similar to my iPod shuffle and I wanted to a device that would use wma files - which this did. So far so good.

I added files using Windows Media Player and that worked well enough.

But when it came time to run with this unit, I was bitterly disappointed. The clip was not strong enoug to secure the player to the waist band on my shorts so I was forced to clip it to the collar of my shirt. It stayed there pretty well. But once I started to sweat and the MP3 player got a little wet, it died completely.

I liked the idea of a player that would work with Windows Media Player. And as far as that goes, this device worked just fine. But for someone who wants to wear this while exercising - not the best way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little MP3 player!, January 14, 2008
This review is from: Coby MP-C582 Clip MP3 Player 1 GB - Black (Electronics)
I just received my player today. Easy to install and setup. Windows Media Player 11 had no trouble seeing it. Drag and drop playlist or albums right to it and it only took about 6 minutes to transfer three albums. My only con is the player charges with a USB hook-up but there is no indication if it is fully charged or not. The little red light stays on while charging but never shuts off after three or four hours. I guess when it dies it needs to be recharged.
