5.0 out of 5 stars yota911, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Coby MP705-8GB 8 GB Super-Slim MP3 and Video Player with Touchpad Control (Black) (Electronics)
the coby mpc 705 is slightly slimmer than the nano, but not by much. it has never glitched on me, or stoped working, like san disk. it does movies, music(wma, mp3), pictures, and text. i do not believ that ipod does text. all you have to do is go to my computer on your start menue of your computer, click on the picture of an mp3(mp3 must be pluged in) and then you can drag any folder onto the computer. the player has a power-hold butin, you slide it and hold it to the right to turn on and off, and push it to the right to hold(as long as hold is on any of the butins pressed have no effect). the butins on the player react to the static that runs through your fingers, so that if something else presses it, like your wallet nothing will happen. overall the coby 705 mp3 looks and works amazingly, and at 1/3 the price of an ipod. it also runs off of a great rechargable basttery that is built in, just like the ipod. the screen is full color and high quality, i can easily read text on it. DONT WASTE MONY ON AN iPOD, THIS DOES IT ALL AT 1/3 THE PRICE.

5.0 out of 5 stars iPod or Coby?, November 14, 2009
This review is from: Coby MP705-8GB 8 GB Super-Slim MP3 and Video Player with Touchpad Control (Black) (Electronics)
Let me tell you a little about myself: I'm 16 years old and I listen to music every day on the bus to school. I am an avid apple user and I recently got a new MacBook (which I love) however, last Christmas when my old iPod was getting on and I needed more storage I didn't want to put my parents under pressure by asking them to get me a rather expensive iPod, instead, to replace my old iPod mini (it's very retro now!) I asked for this.

As soon as I opened it I found it easy to use and navigate. I'm not quite used to touch screens and so the buttons required me to adapt slightly, however, I was overall pleased with it. I used it frequently and it was also easy to just plug into my computer and upload my latest songs.

However, the real test came this summer. I got a new computer this summer (as I previously stated) a MacBook, which came with a free iPod touch. Now, not many mp3 players can compete with the iPod touch. I used it for internet, pictures, movies, games and more, however, it was only 8gb and a lot of that was taken up by things other than music and so I couldn't fit my whole library on there.

This was the point at which I dug out this again. It's perfect, light weight and easy to use. I now use this every day instead of my iPod and I save the iPod for times when I'll need internet connection or games.

If I was choosing to buy an iPod (purely for music) or this, then I would go for this any day. For a start, the lead is easier and cheaper to replace. It looks and works pretty much just like an iPod does and it's much less expensive! I now use mine every day, instead of my iPod, although I have to admit that if my iPod had more storage then I might be using it, simply because I'm slightly better at operating it, however, the cost advantages with this are incredibly persuasive!

In conclusion, if you are more used to iPods and you can afford them, then you might as well get one of them. But if you're not used to them or you just don't really want to fork out all the extra money, then don't hesitate to purchase this, it will be money well spent!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little player, August 5, 2009

This little gem is well worth the money. It is easy to use, looks great and works pretty good too. My list of dislikes is short: one is that it is very small so not as easy for my big hands to operate but this could also be considered an advantage in that it doesn't take up much space. Second is that if you stop it while playing one of your playlists, it does not restart where you left off. A minor thing but somewhat annoying.

I really like the fact that you do not need to use iTunes and their locked up music. If I buy music then I expect that I can play it anywhere, not just on an ipod or with itunes and if I want to share it with my partner then I expect to be able to do that too. I don't know why people insist on paying so much more for an iPod when this kind of technology exists for 1/3rd the price. Why pay more for the same thing?

Well actually, you get a little more with this because it even has an FM Radio built in to it for those times when you have to reach out to the real world. I tried it out and it works pretty good but I mostly just listen to my downloaded music.

I find the earbuds an acceptable size and they work well and fit into my ears without any issues. I can't really comment on the video capabilites because I have no desire to use that feature and don't have any of them to judge it by. You can see the album artwork and other identifying information in the viewer when you play something.

I read about people having problems with it hanging. I did experience this once but only after I had been frigging around with my music, creating MP3s from iTunes crap and adding and deleting various items. I simply turned it off, then back on and resynched and everything was fine. I know of iPods which hang up too! It's just the way with computers....sometimes you have to reboot but user error is usually a contributing factor whether they know they did something wrong or not! (I work in the Technical Support field--seen it a million times). Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this device again.
