the coby mpc 705 is slightly slimmer than the nano, but not by much. it has never glitched on me, or stoped working, like san disk. it does movies, music(wma, mp3), pictures, and text. i do not believ that ipod does text. all you have to do is go to my computer on your start menue of your computer, click on the picture of an mp3(mp3 must be pluged in) and then you can drag any folder onto the computer. the player has a power-hold butin, you slide it and hold it to the right to turn on and off, and push it to the right to hold(as long as hold is on any of the butins pressed have no effect). the butins on the player react to the static that runs through your fingers, so that if something else presses it, like your wallet nothing will happen. overall the coby 705 mp3 looks and works amazingly, and at 1/3 the price of an ipod. it also runs off of a great rechargable basttery that is built in, just like the ipod. the screen is full color and high quality, i can easily read text on it. DONT WASTE MONY ON AN iPOD, THIS DOES IT ALL AT 1/3 THE PRICE.

iPod or Coby?,
This review is from: Coby MP705-8GB 8 GB Super-Slim MP3 and Video Player with Touchpad Control (Black) (Electronics)
Let me tell you a little about myself: I'm 16 years old and I listen to music every day on the bus to school. I am an avid apple user and I recently got a new MacBook (which I love) however, last Christmas when my old iPod was getting on and I needed more storage I didn't want to put my parents under pressure by asking them to get me a rather expensive iPod, instead, to replace my old iPod mini (it's very retro now!) I asked for this.
As soon as I opened it I found it easy to use and navigate. I'm not quite used to touch screens and so the buttons required me to adapt slightly, however, I was overall pleased with it. I used it frequently and it was also easy to just plug into my computer and upload my latest songs. However, the real test came this summer. I got a new computer this summer (as I previously stated) a MacBook, which came with a free iPod touch. Now, not many mp3 players can compete with the iPod touch. I used it for internet, pictures, movies, games and more, however, it was only 8gb and a lot of that was taken up by things other than music and so I couldn't fit my whole library on there. This was the point at which I dug out this again. It's perfect, light weight and easy to use. I now use this every day instead of my iPod and I save the iPod for times when I'll need internet connection or games. If I was choosing to buy an iPod (purely for music) or this, then I would go for this any day. For a start, the lead is easier and cheaper to replace. It looks and works pretty much just like an iPod does and it's much less expensive! I now use mine every day, instead of my iPod, although I have to admit that if my iPod had more storage then I might be using it, simply because I'm slightly better at operating it, however, the cost advantages with this are incredibly persuasive! In conclusion, if you are more used to iPods and you can afford them, then you might as well get one of them. But if you're not used to them or you just don't really want to fork out all the extra money, then don't hesitate to purchase this, it will be money well spent!

This little gem is well worth the money. It is easy to use, looks great and works pretty good too. My list of dislikes is short: one is that it is very small so not as easy for my big hands to operate but this could also be considered an advantage in that it doesn't take up much space. Second is that if you stop it while playing one of your playlists, it does not restart where you left off. A minor thing but somewhat annoying.
I really like the fact that you do not need to use iTunes and their locked up music. If I buy music then I expect that I can play it anywhere, not just on an ipod or with itunes and if I want to share it with my partner then I expect to be able to do that too. I don't know why people insist on paying so much more for an iPod when this kind of technology exists for 1/3rd the price. Why pay more for the same thing? Well actually, you get a little more with this because it even has an FM Radio built in to it for those times when you have to reach out to the real world. I tried it out and it works pretty good but I mostly just listen to my downloaded music. I find the earbuds an acceptable size and they work well and fit into my ears without any issues. I can't really comment on the video capabilites because I have no desire to use that feature and don't have any of them to judge it by. You can see the album artwork and other identifying information in the viewer when you play something. I read about people having problems with it hanging. I did experience this once but only after I had been frigging around with my music, creating MP3s from iTunes crap and adding and deleting various items. I simply turned it off, then back on and resynched and everything was fine. I know of iPods which hang up too! It's just the way with computers....sometimes you have to reboot but user error is usually a contributing factor whether they know they did something wrong or not! (I work in the Technical Support field--seen it a million times). Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this device again.

This mp3 player is functional, but somewhat poorly designed. In hindsight, I should have gotten an iPod. Here are my complaints with the device:
- It does not support playlists well. You must manually create a playlist by going into the device's memory on the computer and creating a new folder inside the "Music" folder. There are still problems with this, though. The device will count each version of a song once - so, for example, if you have a song on the device, copy the song, and put it into a new playlist folder you've created, the device will now have the song listed twice under your tracks. This can be solved by actually moving the file into the new folder instead of copying it, but it means you cannot have the song in two playlists without there being two copies of it. - The only playlist that works is the built-in "favorites" playlist. However, this playlist is limited to 20 songs, so if you have more than 20 favorite songs, you're out of luck. - Not all files are visible from your computer. This may be a problem with my computer, but given the other problems with this device, I am inclined to blame the mp3 player. The only way to delete files from the mp3 player is to open the Music folder on your computer and delete files from there. However, many songs that are on my device do not show up at all when I view my music from the computer. These files cannot be deleted, since they are apparently invisible to my computer. - 7 times out of 10, tracks are rearranged in alphabetical order instead of the order they were originally in. The other 3 times out of 10, the number is tacked onto the track name, so your song is called "2 - Example Song Title" instead of "Example Song Title." This rearrangement is very annoying, especially with albums where one track is specifically intended to come right before another. - There is no "shuffle", only "random". The difference is that on "shuffle", songs do not repeat. On "random", you may very well get the same song twice in a row, and will almost certainly repeat at least one song out of a list at least once. - An odd bug I have run across: if you turn the volume down to 1 and then turn off the device, the volume will be at maximum when you turn it back on and will blast your eardrums out. It will still read as being at volume 1, however, and turning the volume up by one will bring the volume back down to a normal 2. I cannot for the life of me figure out how the makers of the device managed to do this. The upside to this device: it plays music reasonably well. This is why I gave it a 3 instead of a lower score - it does what it is designed to do. If you are looking for a product that will do its job, this device will work. If you are looking for a product that will do its job well, look elsewhere.

so recently I purchased coby... and this is an amazing product !! in 5 minutes [after charging it] I was able to add muzic to it... and enjoy it ?? what else could you expect from mp3 player ? it is tiny... light... good looking... has a lot of applications.... if you want an mp3 player that is not an ipod... please do not hesitate buy coby !!!!!!!!!

Pros:
1. Nice look & feel. 2. Not difficult to use. 3. The earphones are not too big as mentioned by other folks here. 4. Good price. 5. Good sound quality. 6. Not too bad to deal with the "too sensitive" soft panel. Cons: 1. I have reset this device two times in less than 3 hours. For some reason, it just locks up. 2. It takes about 2.5 hours to load about 7 GB media files. 3. When connected with my PC, I lost Internet access (Vista OS) More "tests" show: Most of the "lock-up" issues occur when you are playing a song and touch the keypad. To touch the middle key to stop the play is usually OK, however, if you touch the Up or Down key, which supposedly will increase or decrease the volume, perhaps you will see the Lock-up problem. Occasionally, touching the Left or Right key while you are playing music will also cause lock-up. When the player is in lock-up "mode", you can not turn off the player. You have to reset it. If you use this player carefully, it is not a bad one. But the lock-up issue is really bad. Hope Coby will fix this bug and provide with a software upgrade soon.

Perfect for music lovers,

This review is from: Coby MP705-8GB 8 GB Super-Slim MP3 and Video Player with Touchpad Control (Black) (Electronics)
This is my first MP3 player (I know, I'm behind the times), so I really can't compare it to the IPod or other similar players.
I am a complete music nut and was getting tired of hauling my 800+ CDs around in my car (I listen to whatever my immediate mood dictates). My 30-minute commute to and from work every day is when I do most of my listening, so an 8G player with the capacity for about 4000 songs is just what I needed. I found this unit to be easy to use and very versatile (it also handles pics, video, texting and FM radio). My ONLY complaint is that I can't figure out how to sync selectively. By that, I mean that when I connected the unit to my PC, it downloaded EVERY music file I had on there. I'm trying to figure out how to pick and choose which music files I want to add to my MP3 player. If anyone has any suggestions or tips, I'm all ears. I followed the instructions that came with the unit, but this thing seems to sync with a mind of it's own. This one factor is the only thing that kept me from rating this product with 5 stars. Other than that, this is an EXCELLENT product and a PERFECT price. Recommended. UPDATE: I figured it out. Connect the unit to your PC with the provided USB cable. Do not allow your PC to run the player automatically. Open up Windows Media Player and look for your MP3 player on the left-hand menu bar. Select your unit and you can add, delete, reorganize, etc. your music at will.

great mp3, not so good video player,

I got this for $53 from J&R on Amazon and for that price, it is really a 5 star buy. I got it to sync with my xp just fine, while having a little more trouble with vista, eventually got it to sync by simply plugging and unplugging multiple times with either WMP up or not.
Works great for music and audio books, really no complaints in that department. The video conversion software with this unit is pretty bad, I eventually got a short 5 minute video to convert to wmv and then to avi and it worked, but I tried it with a longer video (incredibles) and it would not play, it said it was outside one of it's limits, I'm guessing length. I guess I could chop it up, but that would be very time consuming. Anyway if you're just getting it for audio definitely, one of the best available. Also should note, though, that the unit has frozen on my already once and had some "updating library" problems, but nothing that a "shutdown/restart" didn't cure. I've only had it for a week, but going great so far.

Coby 8gb MP3 player,

I have had this player for about a month and it has worked as advertised. Holds a charge well and plays back well. The controls are touch sensitive and require a light touch due to the sensitivity, but you get use to it. I use it in my car and attached to a home stereo system.
I think it is a good value for the dollars.

I have really liked this mp3 player. The only thing is the touch pad seems to only work when it wants. Sometimes I have to touch it a few times before it does what I want. But overall a great mp3 player!
