Okay so this thing was good for a while, but I ended up returning it for the following reasons:
1. the touch screen doesn't work too well
2. the volume isn't controllable
3. the range for the radio isn't the best
4. it doesn't like to turn on very well and turns off randomly
5. I never could get the pics to work

The touch screen is pathetic, product looks like a kid's toy. The main screen looks exactly like how it is displayed in the picutre with cheap graphical icons. touch screen requires hard press to invoke a response. Navigating is a very tough job in this player. Not a good product for 50$..

Purchased a couple of weeks ago (Jan 2013), really just so I can play music through the AUX of the car stereo. I don't use if for photos or videos. Mine has 16 GB, BTW.
I'm not gifted technically (a euphemism), but syncing tunes was child's play, and sound in the car (Dodge Caliber with the better radio) is first-rate.
My complaint is that the user guide leaves you cold once content is synced, and the Coby website is no help: just product information, no manuals that I could find.
It took me forever to figure out how to get it to play tunes at random ("shuffle"), and I found out only by accident. I still can't get anywhere with such selections as "Genres" or "Aritists" (sic). The screen that allows you (eventually) to select "Random" appears only when a tune is already playing - are we supposed to know this?
People having trouble with the touch screen should fumble around for a "Calibration" command. Mine needed heavy pressure initially, but now works very well.
To sum up: It is cheap: I paid $45 in Canada (the Sony with 16 GB was on sale for more than twice as much). The capacity is huge: 70 albums and it is barely one-third full. The music sounds great. Finally and most important: no ihassles (eat your heart out, Apple; I understand the seeds are nutritious).
But it would have been nice to have a proper user guide.

My only complaint about this player is that the battery runs out so quickly that I have to recharge it after a few hours of play. I filled the charge and experimented to see if it was me, but nope the batter sucks terribly. I don't know why they would put this product out in this fashion. It almost seems intentional that it would be so bad. The other thing is the shuffle feature only works when the song runs out. When you skip songs it plays the whole album of the current song your listening to which sucks.

The photo gallery takes for ever to load, and malfunctions, also when you take a picture you don't know where the photo file is.

Sound quality aint bad but it has a slight room effect.

The Coby MP828 has a battery life of about 2 hours which is a joke for this class of product and this is just playing music. The touch screen is balky and hard to use, some times it works ok, other times it is very hard to get a command to input. I have a MP620 which works well and has decent battery life, it is half of the price of the MP828 ans is a much better product. COBY really droped the ball on this one.

Before i bought my Coby player i ensured to read some of the posted reviews. It has been five days since i have had my player and unfortunately i am unsatisfied. It was not fully charged when i opened it (but that's okay), however i have been charging this player day in and day out and its to no avail. The most charge its taking is quarter and i am very much confused by this.
Everything else i can work with, like the slow reading of pictures, but the charging issue is really killing me and unfortunately its not that easy to return it as i live in the Caribbean (Trinidad West Indies) and it would be very costly.
If there is anyone else who experienced this; i hope they can offer some advice.

I didn't expect miracles for this kind of price but I did expect a lot more than I got. The touch screen doesn't work well, the user interface is clumsy, the support software is difficult to use and the battery only supports a couple hours of play time on a good day. It me took about 3 hrs to figure out how to get files loaded using the supplied software and I still haven't been able to create a play list. It's much easier to drag & drop the files than to fight the supplied software. And yes, I read the manual; it's just awful. It won't play music while it's charging and it needs to be charged frequently. And the camera ... well forget it. It's really bad, about on par with the first generation of cell phone cameras. But it's so complicated to use it doesn't really matter how bad it is. You'll never use it. I don't have much positive to say about this thing except that it does play music and the sound quality is fine.

This is nice if you just want to listen to music. I like to be able to search for music on my mp3 player. This does not do it. Plus it won't accept my 16 gb SD card. It will accept a 2 or 4 gb card. Dont expect to download a lot of music to this mp3 player. Another thing, the touch screen is terrible. I have to press hard on the screen to have it work. I am in fear of breaking the screen for pressing so hard on it. Get an ipod or Zune, you will be much more pleased!

I got this because I am in iraq and didnt want to buy an ipod and have it break out here. But mostly because Im cheap. I always figured why spend hundreds on an Ipod when I could get this for way less.
I have since bought an Ipod.
These are very cheap, very very cheap. Short battery life, I cant stand the menus, the camera is very fuzzy, and the speaker is barely worth using. Within 2 days of having it the screen cracked and it no longer responds to touch. I wasnt even doing anything that should or would have damaged it. just from having it with me.
Aside from the screen breaking, my biggest complaint is that there is no key lock feature... every time I have taken it from my pocket the damn thing is dead.
I say, save yourself the money and hassle... Just buy an Ipod, if your cheap like me, then get a used one...
you wont spend much more, but the difference in quality is enormous.
