Excellent for either Minimalist/Cheapo or ControlFreak 'IwantItLikeThis' -- very Flexible,
By
This review is from: Coby NBPC1022XPBLK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 2.45 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
Good are: XP operating system -- this is the best OS; netbook is very flexible with plenty of function keys to adjust things (such as scratchpad pointing device on/off); USB add-ons worked fine; fast boot, fast disk defrag, great price; Bads: all USB's are on right side, so if add trackball there the usb stuff crowds your hand access -- even with added USB hub, still gotta have hub input on right, so us righthanders and trackballers and numeric keypaders have the usb input cable in the way; LCD screen very susceptible to angle view in terms of brightness and color, but screen is VERY sharp;
Semi-bad: runs hot, but OK if get netbook cooling fan; aluminum plate cut down heat by 20%, but netbook cooling fan cut down heating by 300%; combined with aluminum plate, fan cooled netbook by 500% Also note: adjust graphic accelerator (it's a popup) for screen brightness (and rgb too separately) and for contrast -- settings I found best are Briteness RGB = -46 -60 -56 respectively, and Contrast RGB +47 +41 +43 respectively (the minimimum allowed for briteness -60 and the minimum allowed for contrast is +40) since you are always looking at the screen (even though it CAN run another monitor), might as well get the screen optimal, right? Note that my settings are for the GMA accelerator; you can still use Coby's function control to bump up briteness overall. Get book XP Unleashed (short title, but search that in Amazon) -- superb book for a CD/DVD drive, get the Buffalo one: outstanding performance; for floppy drive get memorex; for Tracball see website by searching for ITACsystems -- the absolute cadillac of trackballs; overall the Coby is very flexible and fast and cheap -- but you probably will be buying add-ons and you will need to cool the thing; and be willing to optimize stuff (its graphics accelerator settings and windows settings); one more thing: you'll have to buy microsoft office software since the Coby is not loaded with much I'd say the Coby is a good performer and can go to either the cheapo person who wants only WiFi and e-mail-ish stuff (and pictures [does have builtin SD card reader slot]) or to the control freak person (guess which I am?) who wants to build it all and optimize it to his/her taste rather than take a whole bunch of stuff just because "it came with". And again, don't despair over the smallish screen. It is extremely sharp and clear. Just optimize your briteness and color. Then you'll love looking at it. (and you can always use a large screen since Coby will send its video to another monitor)

Don't Buy Coby,
This review is from: Coby NBPC1022XPBLK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 2.45 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
Save your money. Coby offers zero customer support - I know from experience. If your HD crashes, you will not be able to re-install windows because Coby will refuse provide you with the necessary drivers. Avoid Coby. Pay a little bit more with another vendor - it will be worth it to get some help when you need it.
