An "Okay" 'Pretty Good' DTV converter box by COBY,

Converter boxes will become increasingly scarce next few months. Prefered brands sold out on Amazon, so got this one. ALLOWS Analog PassThrough. It does have menu choise to set Time Zone, but NO option to Turn Off Day-Light Savings which may be issue in Arizona. The "Program Guide" will only go ONE program into future (some brands go 3 - 4 hours ahead) Big annoyance, is the COBY Remote that comes with it, TURNS OFF Sanyo TV its connected to, when you push "Up Channel" button! and other buttons on COBY remote cause various menus & input channels on TV to pop up at inopportune times! I've notice COBY remote for DVD player I have does same thing on TVs in Hotel Rooms! I DID like the menu option that lets you program screen orientation (widescreen, letterbox, full) to be "Set By Program" which is where I set it. One odd thing about this DTV box (I have 3 other brands and they just have visual) is for the Channel Signal Strength Bar it ALSO has audible BEEPING coinciding with signal strength! Was going to send it back because it interferes with TV set, but decided to work around problems and keep box, (push "Up Channel" button again, turns TV set back on!) as my preferred brands (GE, RCA) are sold out!

My Digital Stream box quit after 9 mos. so I bought this one. You should know that unlike the Digital Stream box, this one has no provision for operating the TV it is connected to. So you must use one remote to control TV volume and on/ off , and another to change channels. The COBY box did not pass analog channels as promised (yes, I turned it off). It also was not able to see some of the channels the Digital Stream box could. But the DS box costs more than twice as much as the COBY. I guess you get what you pay for.

Great Product, Bad Remote,

This converter box works really well. It has a signal strength meter which is really cool, so you can actually see the signal strength increase/decrease as you move the antenna. The on screen menus and guides are set up very well. The box is absolutely perfect for any tv that doesn't have a built-in digital tuner.
My only complaint (and it's a common one with this product) is the remote. It really only likes to work in a few certain spots. So, sometimes you're just clicking away with no results on the screen. It's frustrating, but luckily I don't have a lot of channels to run through. Of course, like most boxes, you really need that remote because the box itself doesn't feature a lot of buttons on it.

The coby converter box started out by coming to me with no instructions or remote. I was a little anoyed that I recieved the box with no remote or instructions in the box, that made the box unworkable, but when I ordered a remote from the company and got it I connected it all up the box proved out to work better then the original converter box and I didn't need the instructions to help me. So, I must say that I'm very pleased with it and I'd recommend the coby converter box to anyone that wants it.

Easy setup and worked fine out of the box. After a while "no signal". While checking connections to the box, signal returned when moving the RF in cable. Found that elevating the cable kept the signal on. Had to manipulate the cable regularly to bring back the signal and after replacing the RF cable. Opened the box expecting a simple repair and found the RF fitting part of a module. Sent e-mail to COBY for advise and have yet to receive a response. I'm trashing this unit and buying another brand.

This device works fine, for the most part, but with a few major annoyances. Yes, the remote is limited in its range, but there are two things that frustrate me more. The device automatically powers off after, I believe, two hours. It displays a note about saving power then turns itself off. This is probably two hours only if you haven't changed channels, but when I turn on a game to watch, they typically do last for more than two hours. That wouldn't be so bad if I could just turn it back on, but for some reason, this box does not store the channels that were programmed. I have to reprogram it every time I turn it on. Very frustrating!!

I have no complaints, all local t.v stations are very clear. This is my third coby converter box purchase, first one from Amazon. One for my workshop, den and one installed in my RV, all works great!

The remote control started malfunctioning after a few days. I tried changing the batteries but that did not help. I had to play with the distance from the unit and the speed and pressure on the buttons every time just to get it to work. And just when you thought you came up with the proper technique in handling the remote control, it stops working again. After a few months it was useless. And using the channel buttons on the unit itself somehow messes up the unit. I had to start configuring from the beginning. I bought a Zinwell converter box instead and it's been doing well since I bought it (6 months ago).
