I recently bought the Coby 5" LCD portable DVD player and must say that for the cost it is a solid value. After considerable research and reading of various customer reviews this is the one I went with. For me it's been a purchase that was well worth it.

Pros: picture quality, even on a 5" screen, is quite good. images are crisp and clear, but bright colors tend to glow a bit.Unit is incredibly easy to use. Buttons on the unit perform the same features as the remote. Comes with headphones, car charger, and AC adapter, which some players dont. Plays CD, DVD, MP3 Data Discs, and Photo Discs. Cost only $120. Parental control function on the set up menu can restrict playback based on DVD ratings which is good for the parents.

Cons: Bulky with the added rechargeable battery pack. About 3.5 inches thick with the battery pack. Charge lasts about 3 hours, which is enough for a plane ride. Sound, though good due to stereo speakers, is not high enough to sit back and really enjoy, so headphones are a must. Control buttons don't respond fast, so moving through menus can be plodding. Buttons feel kind of cheap.

All in all a good value for the cost. For those who want a bigger screen the 7" Coby is also a good value. Those that are expecting a Toshiba HDTV quality image or sound will not be happy. These mini's are not designed for that. But for what they are designed for, they do the job extremely well.

I just got this dvd player home. My intentions of this is to keep my toddler entertained while in restaraunts, in the car, plane rides, etc. I popped in an Elmo DVD and was surprised to see such a clear, vibrant picture. Very easy to use. This seems to have all the accessories needed, headphones, cigarette adapter, etc, even a carrying case which I think is meant to attach to the back of the seat in the car, but I haven't gotten that far yet. All in all, I think this is a great little dvd player for .

I recently bought this DVD player and I have to say that I thought a 5'' screen was too small but is in fact great and visible from about 5-7 feet (approx!!! so not sure). The screen is high quality and brings all the necessary accesories so there is really no need to buy anything else!!!! I got it for $70 at Macy's on sale and I thought it was cheap, but I'm glad I bought it!!!!

My daughter got this for Christmas, and has watched hundreds of hours on it since. This is a great personal dvd player! She takes it all over the house and watches movies and plays CD's wherever she wants. It has bounced on the carpet a couple of times, and still works like a charm. SHE LOVES IT! Thanks Santa!!!

Right out of the box the car adapter was DOA. After 4 months the screen stopped displaying video. I called Coby support, they wanted to charge me $31 despite their website stating that the after 90 day replacement is $6. I should have known better and followed my instincts, you truly do get what you pay for.

My player worked less than a dozen times (and this was for 30 minute yoga lessons). If a company gives you only a 90 day warranty, you should know already that the quality is not such that they expect it to last long. I try to buy from companies I haven't heard of to give them a boost against the big names. Their service department was completely indifferent so the unit is in the trash and the battery recycled. Now I have the speaker units i had to buy in order to hear my lessons and no player.

its a good dvd player for plane rides car trips ect. soooo good i had it for 6 months and it never failed me yet. the battery though i would it to last longer but its good.

I bought this portable dvd in October, 2005 and am fully satisfied with it. I took to the highlands by yearend and could appreciate films and music at open air for about 3 hours without charging the battery. I also use it at home, directly connected to the source in the wall and to a 29" TV using my home theather to watch films from region 1. It is worth and more now that is in the special sale. Great bying!

We have two of these units and both come up "wrong disc" after several months of use. Coby says it is due to a damaged laser eye and there is no remedy so we'll have to replace them at our own cost. One was shipped back to Coby for replacement and the same thing happened after several months of normal use. I believe it is a malfunctioning product and Coby doesn't want to fix it. I will never buy Coby products again.

This coby product functioned only two months for me. Hardly worth spending the money on.
