Great Portable DVD Player,
This review is from: Coby TF-DVD7100 Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I did lots of research before deciding to purchase the TF-DVD7100 portable DVD player. I was looking for a low cost, good quality device that I can take on my plane trips with me and I have been more then happy with this device.
The player is extremely light, about 1.8lbs with the external battery attached. Also, the Battery attaches to the bottom of the device and does not extend out beyond the back which is a huge + since space is at a premium on the airplanes. The sound quality with my Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones is amazing and I was even impressed with the little built in speakers. Screen quality is excellent and the battery life is exactly as advertised at just over 3 hours on one charge. Both the battery and the device have jacks for the AC/DC charger so you can charge the battery off the unit (it even has a battey charge/full light on the battery and the player. I love the ability to have AV IN so I can hook up my X-box which many of the low end players do not have. My only knock aginst it is the case is entirely plastic, which is what should be expected for this price. Button layout and overall look/feel of the device is excellent. I have had zero issues playing any of my DVD's however it will not play VCD. Overall a GREAT player for the price!!

I shopped around for 3-4 months for a portable DVD player before deciding on the Coby 7100. After owning it now for a few months and using in the car, on a plane, in a hotel and on the living room couch, my family and I are all quite happy with this purchase.
Here's why: * The 7-inch screen is exactly the right size for a portable if what you're looking for is a car or personal player. Anything larger would be awkward in cramped quarters. If you don't need a car player and want anything larger, use your laptop. The display on this player is surprisingly solid and much better than I expected. * If you want quality sound, buy a good set of headphones. Does anyone realistically expect the speakers on this portable to provide booming volume or surround sound? The included headphones are adequate for a second set and kids don't even notice the difference. For a second set, look at the Sony or Panasonic noise-reduction units, especially if you are going to be using them in an auto or on an airplane. And you'll be able to use them with your laptop, MP3 player, etc., as well. * This package includes everything you'll need with the exception of a case. If you want something for the car, then look at the Targus cases as they include straps that allow you to hang the DVD player between or on the back of seats in your car. As I said, everything else is included such as the auto power cord that connects to the cigarette lighter, cables to hook up the unit to a large TV set at home or in a hotel, and even a small remote which is actually something you'll definitely need when using it in the car or attached to a TV monitor. In carefully comparing this DVD player package to others in this price segment I did not find any other that included such a complete range of accessories. One potential limitation worth mentioning is that the TFDVD7100 is only certified to play standard production DVDs. While some reviewers have reported success playing DVD-R and DVD-RW discs, I have not. Its worth noting that Coby does not specifically mention support of these formats in product documentation, either. However, if you purchase your DVDs at the store or rent from Blockbuster, you're fine. If this is something you require, you may want to keep shopping -- but be prepared to pay considerably more. In another year or two I'll gladly upgrade my player, but I don't own a DVR at present so this is not a gating factor for me. And if my kids break this unit or scratch up the screen, I'm only out $150. Besides, when it is time to upgrade, the technology is going to be much improved, the price point lower, and I'll finally have that DVR and the ability to burn my own. The bottom line is when you add up all the features of the Coby 7100, the versatility, the included accesssories, the smart ergonamic design, and the low price, I don't think you can find a better player. If you buy it you won't be disappointed. I recommended this player to a co-worker and he is quite happy with it, too.

Outstanding Portable DVD Player With Only One Flaw,

This is an outstanding portable DVD player not to mention a fantastic Amazon seller who gave us super fast shipping. The picture quality on this thing is super crisp and clear. Just the way my kids and I like it. Also, this sellers price in my mind seems pretty hard to beat. The only flaw about this player that my kids and I were able to find is the battery life which in my humble opinion is too short. Our final and perfect solution for this only flaw was to simply pick up a BG 9-12-60 dvd battery which has given us an additional 6+ hours of run time per charge. I would highly recommend this seller and this portable DVD player model to anyone. Just make sure you pick up that extra battery pack and you should be good to go.

With so many portable DVD players to choose from in the sub-$200 category, and so many "not so positive" reviews on reliability, it's tough to make a decision, but I picked the one with the lowest percentage of negative reviews and pushed the "buy" button. This is a great little player, including substantial Li-ion battery pack, wall and car chargers and headphones. I actually haven't tried the included headphones, using my studio headphones instead, and I do pick up some low frequency rotational noise when the player first starts, but it isn't noticeable once it's going. I realize that the various low-cost players have their share of reliability problems, and I'm hopeful that the odds are in my favor, but in any case, I'm really pleased so far ...

An Excellent Buy,

I have had this portable DVD player for about 30 days and have used almost as many times. My previous DVD player simply died so figured I would try something different. I'm glad I did--I love it. Although the unit is small and portable I bought it because I could hook it up to my television and play my dvd's. Used this way, instead of a 7" screen, which by the way is wonderfully clear, you can watch DVD's full television size whether it is on a 13 inch in your kitchen or 50 inch in your den. Great color and good stereo sound for such a small unit. When used with your televison you get full stereo sound if your TV is stereo. It comes with a DC Car charger, stereo headphone, AV cable, 100-240 volt UL adapter and a rechargeagle battery. It also has functions I have not yet used, zoom, fast and slow motion and subtitles (I think in Spanish as well as English). It also comes with a remote control. All-in-all I am extremely happy with this Coby DVD player. The one problem I have is that I paid $200 for it elsewhere--however, I am trying to forget that.
Highly recommended. Vannie(~.~) Work & Family @ BellaOnline.com http://www.bellaonline.com/Site/workandfamily

I liked this player while it was working, but that wasn't for long. Two weeks after ordering it, it's junk now. It won't recognize that it has a disc of any kind in it.
[UPDATE] The problem I reported above was OPERATOR ERROR. Here's the story: when I inserted a disc, nothing came up on the screen, except for a message "A/V" in the upper left corner. There was nothing about this message in the owner's manual, and no disc I tried would play. I sent the player back and received a replacement the next day. EXCELLENT SUPPORT FROM AMAZON! Then, weeks later, I decided to try using the Coby's screen to show the image from another DVD player I have. When I moved the little switch on the right rear side to accept video input, the "A/V" message appeared again. I suspect that the switch must have been moved without my noticing it -- it's in a pretty exposed location. The manual was absolutely no help in figuring out what this message means. Probably the player was working fine, but the owner's manual was useless in the situation. My second player is working fine. The first player worked fine, too, except for the lack of operating information. I'm upgrading my rating to reflect this experience to FOUR STARS. (The review editor won't let me change the stars, unfortunately.)

on the downside the screen has a plastic shield that covers it when you get it which is a pain to take off :). I was going to leave it on and make due but there is a stamp on the plastic which messes with the view. Besides that this is an awesome little dvd player. I have had it for about 1.5 months. I take it everywhere. I take it fishing camping road tripping. Whatever. It is durable has great sound for as small of speakers as they are. Great battery life. I was able to watch Waterworld (approx 1.7 hours) and then like 3 episodes of Viva la bam (20 minutes apiece) and i turned it off because it said low battery. I was able to test how much longer the light would stay on warning the low battery at a later time and found out about 20 minutes (with the on dvd speakers set all the way up) So all in all great battery life. 2 slots to plug in head phones. Also comes with a cable to plug into a tv so that you can use this portable dvd player as a home dvd player which i have done a time before. I have had this player like i said 2 or less months. and have used it at least 2-3 times a week. Watched over 20 dvds on it still enjoy it. Compact and durable great purchase

Best code free DVD available for the Price,
By Cons: Battery Car adapter cannot charge the battery Volume cannot be controlled using the remote This is one good product. i had been checking out lot of portable DVD which can play on either PAL format TV since i from from INDIA.. i needed a product which can work at both the places US and INDIA. this was the best DVD i could get for my requirement.. I checked out the Toshiba, Sony etc etc but for the price range of 200-300$ this was the best..i have been using this for the last 3 weeks and it has been doing very good.. the only problem which i can observe right now is the Battery pack.. the battery will be out within 2-3 hrs of continuous operation and i had expected it to be up and running for at least 5 hrs...and the battery cannot be charged within the Car.. It has a fully functional Remote Control using which all the features of this player can be controlled.. the only problem with this Remote is that i could not control the volume of the built in speaker... Bottom line is this is a great product for the price of 236$ which i paid when i bought it on e Bay

Good, low-priced DVD portable,
This review is from: Coby TF-DVD7100 Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I'm pretty happy with this DVD player. Nice picture, with good color -- recent movies, old movies all look good.
Speakers are not powerful, you'll likely want to use headphones. I use a five-dollar Jensen headphone set, and it sounds great. Headphone jacks on both sides of case. Battery can be recharged attached or separately, has 'low' and 'charged' LEDs. Lightweight remote works well, batteries included. Comes with AC/DC adapter, battery, headphones, car-lighter adapter, audio-visual cord for TV and monitors. Control buttons on unit are clearly labeled, and have definite 'click' feel when pushed.

Coby DVD player provides value for the price..NOTE recent Problems,
This review is from: Coby TF-DVD7100 Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I recently bought the Coby LCD portable DVD player and must say that for the cost it is a solid value. After considerable research and reading of various customer reviews this is the one I went with. For me it's been a purchase that was well worth it. NOTE: SO many reviews recently have remarked on major problems with this unit. I bought mine months ago, maybe got a good batch, but apparently Coby's quality has gone way down hill.
Pros: picture quality, even on a small screen, is quite good. images are crisp and clear, but bright colors tend to glow a bit. Unit is incredibly easy to use. Buttons on the unit perform the same features as the remote. Comes with headphones, car charger, and AC adapter, which some players dont. Plays CD, DVD, MP3 Data Discs, and Photo Discs. Cost only $120. Parental control function on the set up menu can restrict playback based on DVD ratings which is good for the parents. Cons: Bulky with the added rechargeable battery pack, About 3.5 inches thick. Charge lasts about 3 hours, which is enough for a plane ride. With the sound from stereo speakers, is not high or rich enough to sit back and really enjoy unless you are in a soundproof room, so good headphones are a must. Control buttons don't respond fast, so moving through menus can be somewhat plodding. Buttons feel kind of cheap to the touch. Also you have to make sure the DVD is properly seated or the lid may scratch the top side of the DVD. All in all a good value for the cost. For those who want a smaller screen the 5" Coby is a good value. Those that are expecting a Toshiba HDTV quality image or sound will not be happy. Though I have not had problems with mine, many have had in recent months which leads me to think you would be better off with something different. |
