5.0 out of 5 stars Good TV GREAT Price!!
Bought this from J&R.com through Amazon. TV is very good with QAM HD Tuner. Somewhat slow changing HD channels, but all HD TV's are slower than analog... great Picture and TV seems sturdy... You do not need a cable box to receive HD channels. Stereo is a bit weak in volume...remote has no codes for an all in one remote....1080p for future transmissions... goes up to 1080i...

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent but Flawed Cheap TV
Pro: No dead or stuck pixels. The tuner has good reception. Good selection of inputs and the on-screen menus are well thought out. The resolution is as advertised. The speakers are better than most TVs of this size, but still sound tinny.
Con: The LCD panel has poor vertical viewing angle, you need to be looking at it at almost 0 degrees. Viewed from 20 degrees...

This review is from: Coby TFTV2224 22-Inch Widescreen LCD HDTV/Monitor with HDMI Input (Black) (Electronics)
Viewed from 20 degrees below and it is almost black. Viewed from 20 degrees above and it is completely washed out. Absolutely terrible color banding. Instead of a smooth color gradient you see obvious bands of solid color. I tested this side by side with a Sony viewing the same off-air video source (1080i native source material). The Sony looked great, the Coby had obvious banding. I assume this is a 6-bit per pixel panel used for cheap computer monitors and not the 8 or 10 bits per pixel panels used with most TVs.
Conclusion: For the price this is an adequate TV for an exercise room or fishing cabin where quality does not matter. Not acceptable for a TV that will be viewed frequently.

4.0 out of 5 stars perfect for my room, August 23, 2009
This review is from: Coby TFTV2224 22-Inch Widescreen LCD HDTV/Monitor with HDMI Input (Black) (Electronics)
This TV was a steal for $209 (no shipping, no tax) when I bought it.

I mostly got it because I had a smaller, non-HDTV that wasn't widescreen before, and I recently got a 12.1 inch laptop so I wanted a bigger widescreen HDTV that I could use as a monitor for it. It's perfect!

I didn't want to get the DVD player attached since I don't know how long the DVD era will last, and since I hook my laptop up to it anyway, I might as well just use it as the DVD player and save $20 or however much.

It has a nice picture, the colors are very bright, and the audio is all right, but I personally up some surround sound because that's how I roll. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars As a TV, it's fine. As a monitor, it's ...., January 30, 2010

The Coby TFTV2224 is fine to be used as a TV.

But, when I connected it to my computer with a vga cable, I couldn't set the resolution to 1680*1050 which said on the user mannual. I called the technical support service, and they told me to change the vga cable. I bought a another vga cable, but it didn't work, yet. Then I tried the vga cable on another monitor, it worked; and then I tried the coby monitor on another laptop, it didn't work. So I think the coby monitor didn't support it's own max resolution.

So, if you just want buy a TV, take it. If you want buy a 22' LCD monitor, don't buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyers Remorse Here, July 24, 2011
This review is from: Coby TFTV2224 22-Inch Widescreen LCD HDTV/Monitor with HDMI Input (Black) (Electronics)
I would agree with all of the negative things said about this product and also add that after 3 months the v-chip went out - and locked every channel permanently. No matter what settings i change, it asks for the password each time i change the channel...

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible monitor, January 1, 2011
This review is from: Coby TFTV2224 22-Inch Widescreen LCD HDTV/Monitor with HDMI Input (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this TV to be used as a TV and as a stand alone monitor for my daughters room. The TV part work great. The sound quality is poor but not unexpected for a television of this price range. The problem is that the TV cannot be used as a stand alone monitor without the use of a VGA emulator which will run you an addition $50.00 to $100.00. The emulator is to trick your computer into thinking that a different monitor is hooked up to your computer. Otherwise you have to boot up your computer with a different brand computer monitor then disconnect the old monitor replacing it with the Coby monitor. Any changes to resolution will lock up your computer and render the Coby monitor useless. The problem is that the TV does not communicate with the computer and identify itself as a monitor. In other words the TV gives no EDID information to the computer. Because of the communication problem, the emulator is required for this to be used as a stand alone monitor. I returned this item and replaced with a Viewsonic TV/Monitor which worked without any problems. Additionally, if you plan on using a universal remote you are out of luck. Coby will not give out a working source code to program a universal remote. As a TV for a bedroom the product is great with the exception of a popping noise from the speakers when using HDMI connection. The TV also makes a loud popping noise from the speakers when turned on. As a monitor it is a piece of #%!@#^#@$!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not your best choice, July 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Coby TFTV2224 22-Inch Widescreen LCD HDTV/Monitor with HDMI Input (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this Tv because I needed a small tv for the kitchen and this was the most affordable set in the 22inch realm. In retrospect, I should've eschewed the web and waited for a "crazy" local promotion where they giveaway TV's at crazy prices to get floor traffic. The TV has several limitations; the remote gives you 5 picture modes, but 4 of them are factory locked and are much too similar to each other. There is no mode for dark(late night) so you have to use your one variable mode(personal) to make a darker mode. Problem is, the other settings are too bright and colorful, with color "bleed" a problem. I end up everyday having to make a personal mode for day and then adjust it for night. So much for "automatic". Otherwise, the set is adequate. My Sharp 20" is 1,000x better(costlier too), with 2 wuality speakers, whereas the tinny sound of this set must come from 1 or 2 tiny speakers. This set is designed to be sold cheap...it should never be a primary set. Oddly, it would be a better computer monitor than a tv, since then, it's remote control limitations would be academic.

Great TV/Monitor. TV setup was easy with the my cable box and HDMI connection as well as the VCR using RCA connections. Setup with my computer was a little more challenging but that will vary between different video cards. It is however working well with Ubuntu as well as XP - although not at the maximum resolution - again probably due to my video card. Overall I am very happy with the purchase. The only minor annoyance is that my cable remote does not have a code for coby so I have to use 2 remotes.
