Not great for city dwellers,

I can't really use this product as there are radio stations that broadcast using the same frequencies as this product. I can't dial out the radio station and dial in my mp3 player. Wish the unit offered a wider frequency range.

Blasts over static but burns batteries,
By I decided to try it in my Camry, which has an antenna in the rear windshield. I really get a sense of the power of this thing in the car. When I turn it on, static turns to silence. Because my main need is to listen to audiobooks, frequency cutoffs are not important, and I can't report on them. I like that I can go down to 87.7 FM, below the 88.0 limit of most FM stations. Great in a crowded urban environment. Three pre-tunes seems enough most of the time. I do live in the suburbs of Rochester, NY, so your own experience may vary. The problem is battery life. This unit burns through a pair of AAAs in about six to eight hours, not a big problem if you remember to turn the unit off, of if you use rechargeable batteries. I would like to see an auto-shutoff feature. If I could, I'd take maybe half a star away for the battery issue. But at this price, I can't imagine a better deal.

COBY WIRELESS FM TRANSMITTER,
This review is from: Coby Wireless FM Transmitter - CA-737 (Electronics)
Model 738 which was not available enables one to select a silent frequency from the entire FM spectrum while model 737 offers only four frequencies between 88.1 and 88.7

I owned the previous version of this. Almost identical in the picture.
The earlier version had digital tuning across the whole FM band. The current version has only four channels switch selected. The old one had a 30 hour battery life. This has a 6 hour battery life. I searched out the Coby because of my good experience. This is not as good as the $12 from Wal-Mart DAB

Although it works it seems to be interrupted a little too often. At least where it will get annoying.Changing battery WILL be tedious. My car only has one charger port and since I use it for my GPS and to charge my iPhone I thought it would be nice to have a transmitter that doesn't need to plug in. Do yourself a favor and just invest a little more in one that plugs into the port and a device that will give your more ports. It will save you time, money, and the hassle.

It does what it says it does, but not very well. There are no local stations near me that share frequencies with this device, yet the static still overpowers the music about 70% of the time. Keep in mind that the quality is low no matter where I place it in the car.
Just to be clear, we bought at least two (maybe three, can't remember) of these and all had the same problem. I don't know how radio signals work, but I'm open to the fact that it may just be where I live that's causing the problem. I wouldn't buy it again. We used it once or twice for roadtrips and now it does nothing but collect dust. Still gave it 3 stars though because it's cheap and (sorta) works. "You get what you pay for."

sends quality signal to FM; yeah does go thru batteries in several hours, get a AAA battery charger, but works on 5VDC charger (use a grounded cable or you can get hum). Sometimes you have to put it close to the FM receiver, in a car on the dashboard, (the car FM antennna is outside);need to crank up the MP3 player or laptop. Its worth the money just to wirelessly send uTube, last.FM, news clip audio to something other than crappy laptop speakers.Get 2, leave one in car.

Tired of hearing 10 commercials and only 1 song every 15 minutes??? Great solution...become your own backseat or frontseat DJ on the fly...record your own tunes for cruising...works with all major brands of MP3 players...broadcasts over 88.1, 88.3, or 88.7MHz...most major FM markets are not allocated for service in this part of the FM spectrum...if so, the closeness of this transmitter will over power the much weaker distance signals...crisp, clear sound...worth the effort in eliminating those annoying commercials across the FM radio...you'll be glad to finally be in control of your own music on each and every drive to and from...have fun, drive safe, courtesy to others is contagious...cheers...DEO...}:)>

Don't bother with this product unless you like the sound of static. It was like listening to a scratchy record. I had to turn the volume on my car radio and my MP3 player up as loud as they would go, and only then could I hear the music. But the quality was not good at all.

Nifty Little Unit,

I have a 2500+ square foot house and we can get great reception anyplace in the house or yard. I learned quickly, when using this unit, to have rechargable batteries ready and to keep the spares charging so you can quickly change when they run down. It seems to take quite a bit of battery power. But, the transmission is great, and in the Pacific Northwest, where weekend talk radio is virtually all reruns, we can listen to original programming on WABC, New York, through the computer -- broadcast to all the house. [I haven't found a 4.5 electrical adapter for it, but I'm looking for one.]
