More About the Author

Nisa Santiago came bursting onto the literary scene in 2009 with her debut title, Cartier Cartel. The book garnered rave reviews and left her readers wanting more. She followed up with the sequel, Return of the Cartier Cartel - which turned into a national bestseller. The Library Journal declared that Santiago's sequel, [Return of the Cartier Cartel] "Will keep readers hooked to the last chapter."
Born and raised in Brooklyn, now living in Harlem, the author is moving at full speed with her writing endeavors. Coined the Duchess of Hop-Hip lit, Santiago humbly admits, "I'm just grateful to be doing what I love as a career and not just a hobby."
Her latest novel, Coca Kola - The Baddest Chick is the sequel to her bestselling novel, Bad Apple - The Baddest Chick. The author emphatically states that her decision to start a new series instead of penning part 3 to Cartier Cartel was a brave one. "My readers love Cartier and they wanted more." Santiago wants her readers to know that she has so many stories to tell and shows no signs of slowing down. Other titles penned by Santiago are: Dirty Money Honey; an anthology with her peers, Erica Hilton and Kim K.; Checkmate - The Baddest Chick slated for a July 24, 2012 release and Guard The Throne, slated for October 2012. I must admit that Coca Kola was not what I expected. It was not a bad read but it lacked the excitement and flow that Bad Apple had. This book did NOT have me on the edge of my seat like the first one. Even though the book is titled Coca Kola, the story focused alot on the other characters as well, especially Chico and Cross.

Life was good for Kola and she was moving up in the drug game but I really didnt find her to be that interesting in this installment.I found myself more intrigued with Apple and what she was going through. Apple really hit rock bottom and I actually felt a little bit sorry for her which was a shock to me because I couldnt stand her by the time I finished with Bad Apple. In a way I am really hoping that both Kola and Apple can put their differences aside so they both can be the Baddest Chicks of New York TOGETHER. Especially since one of their men can't be trusted and the other is out for himself now.

I also noticed that this story was very descriptive, giving details is ok but describing every single minor character, club, street, clothes, cars and location is a bit much.I can't even begin to tell you how many dudes were light skinned and had braids in this book. This took alot away from the story and was frustrating at times.

The ending did nothing for me and only left me with more questions than answers which we will hopefully get in Checkmate.I really enjoy the work of Nisa Santiago but I noticed that Im not really enjoying her sequels too much. Her first books always pack a bigger punch than the next.

I'm sorry to say,but Coca Kola fell flat!

This story has been done to death a million times in urban fiction: drug dealers who are trying to undercut the competition and find new suppliers. (yawn) The story felt very bland. Apple's drama would have made for a much better focal point for the story, but of course, this is supposed to Kola's story. That's a shame, because Kola's story is not one that held my interest. At least if you're an author and going to conjure up the same type of plot used so many other times in the genre, put a new twist on it! At least the characters were consistent in this one - no last-minute personality changes.

***SPOILER***
Okay, why is it that Apple loses her house? I understand that the mortgage fell behind, but why would she bust up everything in the house rather than sell the items in the house to make the payments? That was completely unrealistic!

Also, Apple has a gun, but goes out to collect on old debts with a knife instead of the gun? I could see her maybe, MAYBE, doing that one time, but after she was overpowered the first time, why wouldn't she go out with a gun after that? Again, very unrealistic. So points off the rating on this one for the unrealistic plot elements.
