2 - 4 Year Olds Love This BooK!,
By

This review is from: Cock-A-Moo-Moo (Hardcover)
I read to a group of 28 2 - 4 year olds on a weekly basis as part of a local "Grandpas read to pre-schoolers" program. I stumbled across this book in a search of new kids books at the local library and, quite frankly, thought it would just be filler in my scheduled reading program. To an adult, it is not a particularly impressive little story, no great messages or morals. Little did I know it would turn out to be the most requested book I've read to them this year, with universal appeal to all of my kids - from the brand new 2s to the jaded 4s. I've learned to pause at the appropriate points to build the suspense, then shout out the rooster's mistakes. Watching 28 kids absolutely roaring at this simple story is, well, I won't pretend to explain it, but the kids love this one. I rate it a 5-star based upon audience approval.

Loved by kindergarten class,

As a volunteer and not a teacher, I read this story to a kindergarten class in the Phoenix area of Arizona. I missed completely the point about self confidence as a discussion point, but the story was very, very well received by the children. They all enjoyed it even though they did not know what a fox was nor why it was exciting and scary that there was a fox in the henhouse. They also were not familiar with the verb "crow". Once the words were defined, they were quite engaged and I received applause at the end. My goal is to encourage a love of reading by reading out loud to the children. This book was an excellent choice for this age group.

I use Cock-a-Moo-Moo in my 4 year old preschool class. After reading the story we talk about being proud like rooster and what we can do all by ourselves. The story is simple enough for the 4 year old preschoolers to comprehend; and the illustrations are bright and keep the students engaged!

Great toddler book!,
This review is from: Cock-a-Moo-Moo (Paperback)
My son is 20 months and is no longer interested in his board books but isn't quite ready for school-age children's books. Cock-a-Moo-Moo is a perfect match for him right now. The plot is easy for him to follow with a little humor that even he understands.
There are two versions of this book: an American and a British. The story is the same but a few terms change so check before you buy.

A toddler's delight,

As a teacher and mother, I would recommend this book to anyone with young children. My two year old asks for it over and over. It has become a family favorite. The book has a great rhythm and quick paced text. My daughter can't resist mooing and quacking right along with the silly rooster, and I can't resist trying out funny animal voices.
