Editorial Reviews

When some down-on-their-luck old-timers are at risk of losing their home to developers, a group of young, inept criminals decide to take matters into their own hands. The only thing standing in their way? A zombie outbreak in London! Now, it’s up to a bunch of east-enders to fight their way out of the zombie-infested city, led by an unlikely gang of amateur bank robbers and foul-mouthed, plucky pensioners.

Starring Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman, 2007), Honor Blackman (Goldfinger), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger, 2013), Richard Briers (Much Ado About Nothing), and Alan Ford (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels),

I know that previous reviewers have compared this movie to "Shawn of the Dead" but seriously Shawn was a classic, original movie while this movie is just going for a couple of laughs. Granted that both movies take place in London and have zombies skulking about but these are two completely different movies. Besides compared to the disaster of a movie called World War Z, this movie was way more entertaining!!

Cockneys vs. Zombies is a hilarious take of what might happen if zombies decide to invade the East End of London. The reactions from the inhabitants of the East End are both matter of fact and gut wrenchingly funny. There were certain parts of the movie which had me laughing even after the movie was over. IMHO, this movie is a great way to get your mind off things for about 90 minutes.

One final point, this movie also has the stunningly beautiful Michelle Ryan (who was previously the Bionic Woman). Just watching her stroll around England and unload a couple of rounds into zombies was well worth the price of watching the movie!!

Dont go in expecting Sean of the Dead. There is no comparison. It is a zombie movie set in England and shows the outbreak as it starts. Several people try to rob a bank and a zombie outbreak occurs. They are in a standoff with the police and when they come out to have it out with them everyone is gone. This sets up the rest of the movie as to why the bank was being robbed and where the robbers are going. It is a good movie and definitely a renter. If you must have all zombie movies then you will want to buy it when it comes out. Check it out, you wont be disappointed. 7 bucks to rent it now to watch it is a decent deal. I thought the effects were decent, minimal cgi and good acting.

I saw this in the theater last night and laughed all the way through it. Alan Ford's performance alone was worth the ticket, but the writing was MUCH sharper than I thought it would be, the direction was MUCH more creative than I thought it would be, and the sense of humor was MUCH smarter than I thought it would be. It's just a wacky version of the old western "defend the homestead against the invaders" plot, and it totally works because the characters play it straight. Be prepared for gore galore. For me, that was a good thing. Great fun!

This movie is a real treat for zombie movie fans. I loved every minute of this movie and I got to watch this movie for free. The problem is I want to purchase this movie, but since I don't have the proper disc player for this I cannot play it. I wish this would get a release in America, like right now.

A construction crew opens a vault/tomb that was sealed during the Great Plague of London. This unleashes a zombie outbreak. The film concentrates on the old folks home and the young adults who rob a bank to get the money to save the home. Brothers Terry (Rasmus Hardiker) and Andy (Harry Treadaway) head up the group. They are aided by their cousin Katy (Michelle Ryan), bumbling ex-con David (Jack Doolan), and Mental Mickey (Ashley Thomas). Georgia King plays a hostage the guys try to pick up after they kidnap her.

The film is a comedy and not a horror production as expected. It is not knee-slapping funny, but did make me laugh at some unique scenes such as drop kicking a zombie baby, attempting to kill a zombie with a metal plate in his head, a zombie gang fight, and of course the chase scene of a foot dragging zombie pursuing a man with a walker. Zombie fans just have to love it.

Parental Guide: Plenty of F-bombs, no sex or nudity.

The title basically says it. Multi-generations of Cockneys deal with an zombie invasion. Well-paced, fun, with some appearances by unexpected actors like Honor Blackman who played Pussy Galore in the James Bond movie Goldfinger. It's not quite as much fun as Attack the Block, (Aliens vs. South London housing estate gang) but would make a great creature double-feature if you're feeling you need a bit of Blighty in your fright night.

If you liked Sean of the Dead, you'll like Cockneys vs. Zombies. This time the heroes are a group of feisty seniors trapped in their pensioners' apartment building by the encroaching zombie horde. Aided by their young friends and relatives, they fight their way out with many a laugh and gasp along the way. Great sense of humor and good special effects. I thought the beginning was a little slow, to the point we were thinking, "Are ya gonna have any zombies in your zombie move?" but once things got rolling, the action was well worth the wait.
