One hell of a turn on,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cocksure: Erotic Fiction (Paperback)
I'm totally blown away by how hot and well written these stories are. Bob Vickery has managed to create stories that are not only incredibly sexy, but are also funny, moving, even poignant, and always a good read. Vickery's imagination is amazing; his plots are fresh and original, his characters are very human and three dimensional, and the sex scenes always ring true. I found this book to be a great read.

Hot, up to a point,

Bob Vickrey is an author of male erotica who's had a considerable amount of success. This collection of his tales delivers the goods, up to a point. He has an eye for the deliciously sleazy but also the unexpected and playful as well. One of the best tales, for example, "Dads," involves the hooking up of two gay men who discover that they have something in common--children. A tale of two firemen, a college boy, a swimming pool and a very big conflagration is high adventure as well as a good stroke story. However, Vickrey strains too hard for effect quite a few times in this collection, particularly when he tries to shove erotica into the same bed with other genre fiction such as sci-fi or horror. Also, when read back-to-back, the sex scenes become monotonous. Yes, this is a basic problem with the genre but it's possible to be a little more varied than this. His penchant for first-person, present-tense writing also seems rather unadventurous. Thus, this is a collection best enjoyed in small doses, as the separate tales they originally were.

The title doesn't refer only to the book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cocksure: Erotic Fiction (Paperback)
As one of the most prolific contributors to gay erotica, Bob Vickery also comes across as one of the most effective in stirring the sense of eroticism. After reading even one of the entries in this book, "Cocksure" will mean more than its title. Perhaps more than other books of this type, "Cocksure" offers something for just about any discriminating and unique taste, from erotic vampires who suck more than blood and genetically manufactured sex gods who are always up for any job. Refreshing that "Cocksure" doesn't pretend to offer anything nearing intellectual stimulation and is honest enough to seek only to stimulate something other than the intellect. The tantalizing narratives of man-to-man sex, admittedly lustful and carnal with no phony pretenses, do great to jump start the heart. But, if you're reading it alone, "Cocksure" might come in handy for some solo action.

So hot you'll be scorched!,

I discovered this writer in the gay collection My First Time 2, which also features another of my favorite gay writers, Donovan Lee (who wrote a novel called Getting Past Almost). Bob Vickery gives great...description with his erotic stories. And they aren't just sex; they're carefully crafted stories. But the sex...oh my!

This book belongs in every table that's next to a bed along with Camping in the Backyard Home on Leave and Camping in the Backyard Going Forward. This book was well written and beautifully descriptive. Bob, I hope another book is forthcoming. HOT STUFF!
