5.0 out of 5 stars You will love this book!, August 9, 2003

If you are going to die, or if you know someone who is going to die, this book is a must read. An angel helps a human messenger show the dying they can live, laugh and continue to learn, right up to their last breathe. The characters open to the messenger's compassion and gain the strength to forgive others, themselves and then let go to that greater awareness that comes when one releases from the physical body. The author blends the reality of death (the true non-discriminator) with the humor of life. While reading the book I laughed, I cried, I smiled and I thanked the universe for the gift of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Hour, July 26, 2001

Rosemary Sleevi (Denver, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Cocktail Cart (Paperback)
The cocktail cart appears every afternoon around 3 P.M. in the halls of the Hospice of St. Michael. Edward, a new community service volunteer, offers a glass of wine or beer, soft drinks, candies and snacks, and a listening ear to each of the residents of the hospice. During this exchange that takes place, a miracle occurs. The giver becomes the receiver, and the volunteer with the cocktail cart realizes that the dying are living life fully, intensely. Read this delightful story and see what refreshment is awaiting you on "The Cocktail Cart."

5.0 out of 5 stars Serving Compassion, August 8, 2001

Edward Bear writes a compassionate and thought provoking tale of one man's journey as he accompanies others on their final journey. The characters are as varied as any group of people, but similiar in their need to make peace with this life before they move on to their next destination.

It is a story that resonates with remembrances of people who have passed and reminders of the power of kindness. It is a great read.

What a delight. I laughed, I cried and didn't want it to end. If you enjoyed "Tuesdays With Morrey", you'll love this too. A great read and would make a good gift, especially for those who take life to seriously.

I would highly recommend The Cocktail Cart to anyone. Edward Bear's writing style is fun and easy to read. I delighted in the way he taught spiritual principles thru the experiences of his characters. He used a hospice setting to remind all of us of the power of love, compassion and forgiveness. It was obvious the author had repeated experiences being present when souls left their earthly form, and that he knew if we asked for help or guidance, not only would we receive it during our transition from earthy form, but daily thru out our lives. Thru his gentle and compassionate writing style I learned, all is okay, even if though it may appear otherwise. It is a book worth reading over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars There's hope., July 22, 2001

This book had a deep impact on me. I've known people who possess the talent the author writes about. People who make a difference in people's lives (and deaths). I know a lot of others who could do so if they read this book, they just don't know it yet. As with other books Edward Bear has written, The Cocktail Cart could make the world a better place, full of emotionally, mentally and physically healthier people...if they just read and acted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening book on Living to the end.........., July 20, 2001

Having read Ram Dass' "Still Here" I was fascinated with Edward Bears approach to the various stories of individuals as they near the end of life. He relates the experiences of people on the final journey and how they carry on, not obsessed with their plight, but enjoying life as if there is no end.

He has a canny why of demonstrating how everything in life is a lessson if we pay attention....and just watch and listen. It is a light, meaningful read. It is a book that helps a person

laugh at something we avoid to look at or talk about....dying. It truly is a book about living.

Everyone has,or will have, someone close to them who is dying. The Cocktail Cart is a must read.

4.0 out of 5 stars the cocktail cart, October 23, 2010

I loved this book, been lending it out to people since I read it, funny and simple another wonderful book by Edward Bear, in my own journey of recovery I volunteered at our local hospital with a trolley serving cups of tea and found many life lessons there too. The spiritual aspect unfolds slowly and allows the reader his or her own interpretation, I didnt want it to finish.
