I can't think of a more virtuosic and versatile entertainer than Danny Kaye. Comedian, actor, singer, orchestra conductor, television host, and master of language. Since he could communicate to many audiences on so many levels, some of those fans who loved him in "Hans Christian Andersen" or as "The Court Jester" may not be prepared for the more sophisticated material from his Broadway shows. America's greatest song-writer, Cole Porter, wrote "Let's Not Talk About Love," his most virtuosic, challenging set of lyrics, for the only performer capable of singing them--Danny Kaye. But to fully appreciate the accomplishment, listeners might do well to have a written copy of the song's lyrics in front of them. Believe me, it's a very special moment in the history of American popular song.

I've said it on other Cocktail hour reviews, best $10 I'd ever spent on a dual disc set. Purchased this set as well as other Cocktail hour ones several years ago. I really kind of wished that the Cocktail hour people might have tried doing even more compilations. There isn't any kind of frills on their albums, just pure plain fun of some of the best that older artists did OH so many years ago. I don't know how some of those much older reviews can rate this dual disc set as not being some of Danny's best. Danny really never had much of any bad music, and this set is nothing but pure plain fun. I even more especially love a CD (or even a set) much more so if they have many track selections I can easily listen to again and again. I'm a fairly picky person (especially in my music selection), but absolutely love pretty much every track on both discs and have never seperated it in any kind of compilation I arranged for myself (either on a CD-R years ago or on my new MP3 player).
I've recently been reintroducing myself to nearly a couple hundred CD's I'd collected over the years of a wide variety of types of music. Considering that about 90% of the time I'd ever listen to music was in my car, and the player in my car had not been working for maybe nearly 3 years (not to mention having one of my favorites still stuck inside it). I've been able to rejuvenate my interests in my peculiar preferences in music once again having recently aquired my first MP3 player (and decently priced to boot too). It's really nice now to be able to pick and choose all kinds of songs I've ever wanted and not have to worry about having to pick up an entire CD or set for just a handful of decent tracks (or even in rare circumstances I've picked up a few CD's many, many years ago for just one song). Of course this album doesn't disappoint even on one single track.

Danny kaye has a great voice, and listening to him makes me feel very alive. Some of the songs are "weird" and not the kind i like to listen to but the firm humor and the vivaciousness in which he sings makes me enjoy listening to him. he is definitely a skilled entertainer

We are big Danny Kaye lovers at our house, but found this CD rather unimpressive. BUT after I read Kaye's biography stating that most of these songs were what made him famous in the first place, I went back and listened to them more carefully... He's a fabulous performer. But this isn't the album that will convince you.
