Charlie is our Bridget Jones!,
By SRobinson "SMARTSHOPPER" (Charleston SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Cocktail Hours (Paperback)
Charlie, a recent college graduate comes to Hollywood to chase her dreams of being an actress. Like many before her she starts working at the hottest nightclub in town and is engulfed in the vapid world that is L.A.
leading her to question how far she'll go for success. I will not spoil the ending for you, but will say I saw myself in this character and identified with not only her flaws and secrets, but also trying to find oneself when everyone around you is questionable. Would be a great Book Club read.

I'm a little late in writing my review. I had a baby and just didn't get around to it but here I am nonetheless! I thought this book was great! I read it very quickly and had a hard time putting it down. I'm definitely looking forward to a sequel so we can find out what happens to Charlie!

VIP Access behind the scenes of Hollywood,
This review is from: The Cocktail Hours (Paperback)
This is a backstage pass behind the glitter and glam of Hollywood into the real nature of the beast. The storyline is catchy and the character Charlie Sommers is real and unapologetic. Ladies: read and learn from Charlie and make sure to follow the "Rules" if you truly want to make it in Hollywood! If only more cocktail waitresses had a story to tell....

A fun and funny book,

The Cocktail Hours is a delightful book! I felt connected to the main character, Charlie, even though our worlds are miles apart. It's a breezy read and great for a day at the beach.

Very Realistic,

Margaret Rose Lester did a great job writing this book. She created characters the readers could relate to and told her story the way it really is. She didn't glamorize Hollywood at all, but wrote about the very real setbacks a young adult may encounter while living there. It is defitinely a page turner (I read it quite quickly) and left me wanting to read more.

Marvelous!,
This review is from: The Cocktail Hours (Paperback)
I love, love, loved the book! First, I have never been so eager to read, nor had I actually ever ready anything so quickly in my life. Secondly, It made me laugh out loud (more than once), and it even sent me to the verge of tears.Thirdly, it is so easy to identify with Charlie and her encounters with everyone from her best friend to her cocktail manager. Definitely a good pool-side read..., i know that where I read it! ;)

Lovely Summer Read!,

I've got to admit, The Cocktail Hours surprised me! I quickly became attached to the main character Charlie, as she works her way through the industry jungle in L.A. It is also about a young woman really coming into her own. It is a fun read, but it has great depth, and quite frankly it is refreshing to read a book like this that is actually well written!

"This is it.",

I read The Cocktail Hours in manuscript form and was blown away. Witty, engaging, insightful, this is a truly entertaining book that is the only thing I have read that captures Hollywood as it is. Charlie Summers travels in a world of Hollywood that cannot see her value, her talent, her special kind of magic. It was so fun to read something and recognize character after character. Laugh and be moved at the various relationships and situations Charlie finds herself in. And be held by such keen insights into what makes Hollywood tick. Having grown up in Los Angeles, and working now in Hollywood, I've seen tale after tale aspire to what The Cocktail Hours effortlessly achieves.
This is it. This is the new change, the new voice, the new presence of Hollywood. |
