Top-Notch Lounge Music; All Tracks are Great Fun,
By
This review is from: Cocktail Mix, Vol.1: Bachelor's Guide To The Galaxy (Audio CD)
All 18 tracks of this disc are not only good music but also fun to experience again and again. Each tune--highlighted by "Fever", "Blue Rhumba", and "Powerhouse"--has something about it (melody, instrumentation, the beat, etc.) that makes it a winner. Highly recommended for all you lounge lizards out there.

Fun, fun, fun. If you're just getting into "lounge" music, this is a great place to start. It is all instrumentals, just so you are aware. So, pour yourself into something fabulous and enjoy!

This album has an excellent assortment of high quality control, classic cocktail music for a swingin' party or for a time when you're just chilling after a long, hard day at work and you want to kick back with a glass of your favorite wine! This type of music still sounds good today; it makes me feel hip and happenin' all over again! The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent and I like that artwork, too.
The album starts with "Will You Still Be Mine;" this tune has that lounge type of easy listening flavor and the music makes great use of the brass, to say the least. The Three Suns perform "Fever" with a lot of care and genuine feeling; "Fever" is a number I first heard sung by Peggy Lee and I would like to think that Peggy would have approved of The Three Suns' musical rendition of one of her signature songs! "I Get A Kick Out Of You" shines bright when it gets the royal treatment from Felix Slatkin and his mates; "I Get A Kick Out Of You" is very well done and a major highlight of this CD, too. "Star Fire" has a strong retro flavor to it that makes it very memorable; these artists play this to perfection and they never miss a beat, either! I'm very impressed. Henri Rene's "Hansel and Pretzel" is all in good fun; and "Mood Tattooed" has a fantastic arrangement that I really like. The drums on "Mood Tattooed" work wonders for this number. "Danny's Inferno" is also by The Three Suns and they do this one up right! I love it. "Penguin" has a great feel to it; this is classic easy listening music with just a slight touch of Vegas thrown in for a good effect. Great! Listen also for Lenny Dee's "China Boy (Go Sleep);" the organ on this number is particularly good and they perform this faultlessly. "Early-Bird Whirly-Bird" is quite a number from Bob Thompson and The Orchestra Dei Concerti Di Roma; they handle this so well that it sounds rather easy to bat something like this straight out of the ballpark. Of course, we know that it really wasn't all that easy. Their talents always carried them through. Alvino Rey does an outstanding job with "Rock Gently;" how's about that brass? It all holds its own very well. The percussion and the brass also help to enhance the natural appeal of "Rock Gently," too. There's yet another gem in Ferrante & Teicher's "Che Si Dice;" it's perfect for dancing all alone late at night with your sweetheart in your living room. "Blue Rumba" by Rolley Polley has a distinct Latin sound to it that also makes it good for dancing; and the CD ends strong with a tune called "Powerhouse." What a solid ending for this album! If you want some special, classic easy listening/lounge music with a retro accent for your next party or just for the next time you want to relax, pick up this CD and add it to your collection. It's a keeper!

Too cool for words,

This review is from: Cocktail Mix, Vol.1: Bachelor's Guide To The Galaxy (Audio CD)
This album consists of "Space-Age Bachelor Pad Music". It is all pop instrumentals recorded between 1956 and 1962. Generally, pop instrumentals recorded during this time period were kind of dull (see anything by Jackie Gleason). But for this CD, the wildest and swingingest tracks were selected (although there is nothing by Esquivel, the King of Space-Age Pop). Most of the tunes here have bizarre instrumentation and crazy stereo effects. Which, of course, is exactly what makes this CD fun to listen to. If you dig cool and strange music, I think you will enjoy this CD.

Cocktail Music Lover,

I have been a Sinatra/Martin/Basie, etc. fan for many years. Good cocktail music is my pride and joy. This CD was just a little too "out there" to enjoy. However, the art work of the album is a classic. Sorry!
