Book Description

Jena Baker's life was a Type-A personality's dream: job she loved, degree almost finished, great friends... all firmly in her control until one night of insanity when her past collides with her present. After a New Year’s Eve party in San Francisco, Jena wakes up in a strange hotel room beside her college crush, Nicholas Cooper. Funny thing, but showing her wild side to a man she knows makes the prospect of facing him the next morning infinitely worse, so she slips away before he wakes. Back home in Davis, she decides to let old flames die…but that doesn’t stop dreams of her night with him from coming back to haunt her. Nicholas wasn't looking for change, other than a change of scenery. His life was perfectly pleasant, even, and rational…until Jägermeister led to a madly out-of-character night. Now he's dreaming of an angel his mind can’t quite remember but his body won’t let him forget. When fate throws Jena and Nick together again, they find their physical attraction is undeniable. But they need to discover if there’s more to them than great sex. Can a relationship that started somewhere in the middle ever work? Or is it all just Cocktails & Dreams?

About the Author

When she’s not chasing rug monkeys or otherwise running around like a madwoman, Autumn likes to look out at the Rocky Mountains that surround her, and daydream. She wouldn’t live anywhere else (except maybe Tahiti, if half naked serving men were included in the deal. Admit it—you’d trade, too). ** Autumn’s always up for a good chat about music, movies, wine, or good books. Or bad books. Or books of any kind (Really. She talks a lot. Almost as much as she reads. Ask her husband). She sucks down java at a scandalous rate to keep her going by day, but in the dead of night you’ll find her hunched over the computer keyboard, writing frantically while alternating between bouts of snickering madly, sniffling aloud, and despairing over her technodorkiness. ** Someday she’ll grow up and put her very grown-up education to use. ** Maybe. ** But not today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super cute, sweet and funny! July 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Super cute contemporary romance, set in Davis, CA. College crush turned drunken hook up...can they turn it into something real when they've started in the middle? This story is so reminiscent of those heady days of the mid-twenties, when you are a grown up, and you still haven't started your grown up life, but you are about to. Really sweet story, funny, cute.

5.0 out of 5 stars a lovely read August 18, 2012
By Yesyov
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Cocktails and Dreams is a well written, modern love story. You follow the lives of Jena and Nicholas as they work through the trials and tribulations of beginning, maintaining and ultimately owning their relationship. Are you tired of reading simple romance stories where it's all hearts and flowers and chocolates with no earthiness or sense of normality? Then this book's for you. There's romance, there's fun, there's sex, there's love; but there's also a "humanness" in these characters that is rarely found in fiction - they make mistakes, they're not perfect and they deal with real issues. This is what makes this book so attractive to me. Sure, everyone likes escapism in literature, but I also like characters to whom I can relate...and this books gives me that, right down to the very last page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent summer read July 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was fortunate enough to read this story in it's original form and see it's genesis into this gorgeous summer read. I've loved these characters forever and when they "speak" I hear their voices in my head. This happens because of Autumns wonderful writing style and ability to get into her own characters heads. There is so much more I can say about this book but I'll only bore you. Go buy it and read for yourself and you'll see what I mean. I can't wait to read more of Autumns work when it comes out.

I had zero expectations when I purchased this book but it wouldn't have mattered anyway! This would have surpassed any of them anyway! Such a beautifully written story with relateable and love able characters. This is a definite must read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read July 15, 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the characters in this book but by about the 60% mark it started to drag out a bit and the main female character was starting to become annoying. Up until this point I would have given this a five star rating and it's the only reason I dropped back to four stars.

I did actually purchase the book because it was 400 pages and it's nice to have a decent length book to read but it was a bit unnecessary in this case.

The secondary characters really added to the story. Lots of humor. Still worth reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Romance--not too smexy June 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
In this New Adult Contemporary Romance, Jena Baker and Nicolas Cooper--two who had admired each other in college but were unable to link up due to a sudden separation--meet again on New Year's Eve seven years later. And the sex, though it's not described, is EPIC. Except for one thing: Nick was too drunk to remember who his Angel is.

Haunted by dreams of the escapade, he is stunned to learn Jena was his special someone. Meanwhile, Jena, stung by Nick's poor memory is hesitant to enter an actual relationship with the object of her college crush.

What follows is an unsteady game of Misunderstanding as both Jena and Nick realize they are supremely attracted to each other, while having very little knowledge of the other. Their tentative dating results in a passion-fueled couplehood--complete with jealous bar fights, empty liquor bottles, disapproving parents, scheming friends, and lots and lots of hurt feelings. Pretty much dead-on for a realistic relationship, IMHO.

Told in alternating first-person, this tale gives the reader a window to both Jena and Nick's insecurities and certainties--because when the dust settles they're definitely *almost* sure they really might belong...together.

What I really enjoyed about this novel: the passion between Jena and Nick, the love of their friends, and the steadfast belief that they didn't know what the heck they were getting into.

For all that this is a contemporary romance the heat is tepid. Lots of discussion about sex had or to-be-had but no graphic smexy bits to make your hands steam up the reader screen. And, that's okay too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love!!!!!!!
I absolutely loved this story. My only complaint is the ending. It could have used an epilogue or something to let us know if they ever made it to the altar. Love Nicholas!
