I love mixing up cocktails and I'm a subscriber to Imbibe Magazine - so when they came out with this Holiday cocktail book I had to pick it up. It doesn't disappoint for the most part. Just a couple things to keep in mind. Some of the recipes include some more obscure liquors that are on trend at the moment - so they aren't something I can easily whip up at my bar (and I have a WELL stocked one). So, even if it's something I'd like to try, I'm not willing to go out and buy a bottle (which are usually expensive bottles) to make one cocktail. Also, some of the liquors used are "bitter" so - if you aren't a fan - beware. I would have liked to see a few more champagne based drinks too - since that's a staple for me during the holidays. It would have also been nice to have things categorized in with identifiers - like "Sweet", "Tart", "Earthy", etc... just to add more depth to recipes. Still loved the book though!

I have Imbibe's other book The American Cocktail, so I was excited to add this one to my shelf too. It's obviously specific to the holidays, but there are plenty of recipes that I plan to make throughout the year. Every recipe I've tried so far has turned out well and been relatively easy; some are surprisingly simple. There are some recipes that require ingredients you might have to make a trip for (depending on how well-stocked you are), but I haven't found anything to be tough to find, and during the holidays I'm usually in the mode of sourcing things for various parties anyway, so that's not a big deal. This will be my go-to cocktail book every holiday season for sure, possibly for the eggnog recipe alone.

I read reviews of this book in several place so I ordered it as a gift for some friends who love cocktails. There were some interesting recipes but with many obscure ingredients. I won't be purchasing a copy for myself.

More About the Author

I didn't really mean to become a photographer. But with the first photo that I took of a batch of homemade raspberry scones, I knew I was a goner. My family quickly learned to ask first before digging in with their forks as I became completely snap-happy around any kind of food. Family vacations were hijacked to make special trips to particularly photogenic markets or restaurants.

Luckily for me, and my family, this passion quickly turned into something a bit more useful... beautiful images of food, travel and life for editorial publications and advertising.

And then, I didn't really mean to become a cookbook author. But photos led to recipes led to this crazy notion that the world needed a cookbook dedicated to doughnuts!

I hope you enjoy!
