5.0 out of 5 stars Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food February 8, 2013
By Jamie

I've always loved to eat coconut oil, and knew I was doing my body good when I consumed it. However, this book opened my eyes to the INCREDIBLY WIDESPREAD benefits of this amazing food (everything from eczema to Alzheimer's). It truly is a form of manna. One of the things that really stook with me was that everything you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream. As a female, I've combed through drugstores to find lotions and other skin products that I now realize can all be swapped for MOTHER NATURE's gift! This book is a great read for anyone who has heard of coconut oil and its health benefits but wants a thorough but easy-to-understand explanation of just why its so miraculous for the body, inside and out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read, Good information February 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am a believer in the value of coconut oil and how to contributes to healthy lifestyle. This book gives you good information and explains why one would want to switch to coconut oil. I've used coconut oil myself for a number of years and thought I know a lot about its use. But I was pleasantly surprised to learn a couple of new ways to use it and I'm excited to try them for myself. This is a easy read, not too many boring statistics but written well and convincing. I recommend this book if you are looking for a better oil to use in your home. Thanks!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough evidence May 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Let me start by saying that I'm someone who believes in healthy eating as prevention to illness. I am also someone who doesn't jump in two feet into food fads and health remedies. I believe in getting thorough and accurate information, and in eating a balanced diet. Too much of anything is harmful to the body.

"Coconut Oil: the quick and easy guide" didn't say much more than why its authors like using coconut oil. For EVERYTHING. As I stated before, I do not believe that using just one product, no matter how natural it is, is the answer. Natural is good. Variety is also necessary. This book is lacking in evidence. There were very few studies quoted, and most of it seemed like a "believe us, just do it" kind of reading.

Now, I'm not saying it was useless. Some points made sense, and at the very least got a me thinking about the subject. As a matter of fact, I have heard before their claims on cooked vegetable oils, but this book leaves one with more questions than it answers. Until they come up with a guide that's based more on facts than opinion, I wouldn't really rely too much on it as a source. At least not without verifying each of its claims.

I am not a coconut oil hater. I already use it to cook and bake, use it as moisturizer for myself and my kids, make toothpaste with it, even tried deodorant. There are plenty of positive reviews here that really just talk about how great coconut oil is, not anything about the book. This is not one of them.

The language this book is written in makes it painfully obvious that the authors are not writers. I'm not too picky, but it's just stock full of opinions and bad literary devices. Using terms like "that vegetable junk" (referring to vegetable oils) is just not professional. Sentences like "[ ... ] you definitely don't want to be burning it to the point of burning [ ... ]" - really?

The formatting is awful. Almost each sentence is a new paragraph, even if it directly relates to the previous one. So each page ends up having 10 or so paragraphs!

Trying to get to any real information is tedious as you have to follow links in the book. Basically: "We don't like it and studies have proven X or Y" - with "proven" being a link to some study or article or the like. Why not include information with footnotes for references? If I still have to follow links and look at 200 different web sites you didn't really reduce the work for me.

I was hoping to get some good information (that I probably already knew since I use coconut oil) in one place. Maybe something I can have my friends read so I don't come across as a preacher and have something to back me up that they can look at. But this definitely isn't it. You won't convince anybody to use more coconut oil with this tedious read...

5.0 out of 5 stars Coconut Oil Rocks! February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The authors succeeded again, bringing concise quality information and backing it up with research. I have been dabbling with coconut oil for a couple years now, but the authors have sowed some new "seeds" for me to explore. Especially oil pulling for teeth whitening and oral health - is there any limit to the benefits of coconut oil !?! It seems not and this book is an excellent introduction to the subject.

1.0 out of 5 stars Basically just a lecture February 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was looking for specific information on how to use coconut oil. This is basically a personal opinion citing several studies to back it up with no specifics regarding how to actually use the product. For example when you recommend to ingest something as thick as a whole tablespoon of coconut oil, it would be helpful to suggest actually HOW to to do that as the very idea of it is not very appealing. Their so-called list of uses is more a list of benefits not actual how-tos

More About the Author

Joey Cardillo has been actively involved in the health & wellness community since 2009. Through his popular blog, he has had the pleasure to help many clients and loyal readers kick start their health journey in the right direction.

About 7-years ago, Joey realized that almost everything he believed to be true about health, was pretty much dead wrong!

His deep-rooted passion toward gaining better health (whether it be mental or physical), stems from having endured a fair share of health challenges at an early age.

It was only through trial-and-error experiences that he eventually found what worked for him, and therefore was eager to share his findings with the world.

Joey is definitely not your typical health guy!

People seem to gravitate toward his message for the simple fact that he is different...

He's not a doctor (although he is a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist), he's not here to give you the same broken and re-hashed material our society has been accustomed to accept, and most of all, he's not boring!

Being that he is still in his mid twenties, he is able to appeal to a wider audience, and is able to touch a younger generation as well.

Health information is getting more and more confusing by the day. This is why Joey is on a constant mission to simplify all of it! He is always learning/researching in order to provide the best and most current information science has to offer at the time.

In more simple terms, Joey is a young guy with a fresh outlook on the current state of affairs, and has become fed-up with conventional approaches to getting healthy.

By thinking outside the box, he has drastically improved his health, and wishes to help others do the exact same.
