Classic Horner Score,
By Brad Dorfman (Ithaca, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cocoon: The Return (1988 Film) (Audio CD)
Six Words: This Is A Classic Horner Score. While mainly a rehash of his themes for the original Cocoon, those themes were so wonderful to begin with that they just scream out to be developed further. This score is repleat with wonderful guitar solos, sweeping strings, downbeat woodwinds. There's everything from heartbreaking to jazzy, to action music. For fans of film music and James Horner alike, definitely check this one out.

James Horner achieved the style and emotional depth to his work that he is now recognised for, long before James Cameron's "Titanic or Avatar" escalated Horner to the status he holds today as one of Hollywoods great motion picture composers.
The Cocoon Soundtracks give us a smorgasbord of treats that show his versatility. From the sweeping opening and closing tracks through to the emotional thread that runs through both scores. Ron Howard's films Cocoon and Cocoon:The Return, show case some of James Horner's greatest foundation pieces of music. I hear traces of them in the soundtracks of "Braveheart, Legends of the Fall, Enemy at the Gates, Titanic and Bicentennial Man." They all owe a little something to Cocoon and Cocoon:The Return. A great soundtrack! |
