Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Zelian Kurveg is an artist, scientist, and occultist attempting to build a supernatural work of art he calls the "Cocoon of Terror." If he succeeds it will be calamitous for everyone on Earth. Trey Garron is Zelian's protege, but he parted ways with his mentor after seeing the disturbing material (decapitated corpses) Zelian was gathering for the Cocoon, and now Trey is trying to kill him. Only with the help of three friends, Brikle, Amanda, and Ghost, will he have a chance to succeed. Brikle is a talented scientist and engineer with a few deformities he received from being Zelian's "son," while Amanda is an amnesiac they found hypnotized in a country field, and Ghost is a stray dog that becomes Brikle's companion after Trey and Amanda develop a close relationship. These four comprise a team bent on stopping Zelian and sabotaging the Cocoon of Terror. Hopefully they'll be able to prevent the construction of the most lethal work of art ever conceived.

4.0 out of 5 stars Original occult-math-horror....., August 21, 2008
Honestly, I didn't understand a lot of what was in this book. That's because math was never my best subject. Despite that, I found this book both fascinating and enjoyable.

It's not surprise to find out that the author is also a number theorist. He blends this with grotesque and bizarre situations. It's suspenseful as hell. A weirdo occultist-artist guy named Zelian is preparing an earth-shattering masterpiece called the Cocoon of Terror and let's just say it involves a lot of decapitated corpses among other things.

The book takes the form of a journal of a character named Trey who used to be friends with Zelian but now is fighting him along with his companion Brikle (who must be the most original character I've come across in a long time. Just think about the way he was "born". Whew.) Brikle occasionally takes over the journal and the author is great at giving us a look into the minds of both characters. Also, there is some great stream-of-consciousness writing in here (that fits into the plot) that's impressive on its own. I'd probably enjoy reading a book with just those parts, too. Also.. you have to admire an author who drops a Jandek reference (and not just Jandek.. but his great album "Blue Corpse" !!!). That alone is awesome.

Anyway, even if math isn't one of your strong areas, you should read this book if you like offbeat horror and bizarro fiction. It's suspenseful, original, and entertaining.
