Clearing doubts.,

Some people tend to be confused about this soundtrack. The whole soundtrack was composed by David Holmes (also did the soundtrack for ocean's eleven) and does not include those other songs in the film. Following up are the complete song credits for the ones that did not appear in the soundtrack but did on the film:

Song In Dance Club,

Hey ! This is a great CD from one of my new favorite movies! I'm being told that the song everybody loves ( that Maria dances to in the club ) is from a group named Freak Power. The cut is called "Song No. 6" and it is on the album entitled More of Everything for Everybody. Hope this helps...!

This soundtrack is amazing. It is so melodic and just fits with the movie being set in the near future. The other reviewers nail this one, so there is not too much else to say.
The song in the club is by Freakpower "Song 6" to help you narrow down your searches. Which isn't on this soundtrack, but for good reason...the rest of the songs have no lyrics, so this track would have felt out of place on this disk. Also reviewer D. Garcia mentions some other songs that aren't on the disk as well, again for good reason. "Row Row Row the Boat" (is sung as a Lull-a-bye) and is about 20 seconds long. "Should I Stay or Should I Go Now" is being sung in a Karaoke bar (look closely at who is singing it). "No Woman No Cry" Is sung by the two main characters, and horribly out of tune if I might add...(Maria is Tone Deaf.) The others D. Garcia mentioned, I am not sure of why they didn't make it, but I am positive on why the ones I listed did not make the soundtrack. Even without all the songs in the movie, this is one great soundtrack. Pick it up before it goes Out Of Print!

Not disappointed,

I'm glad to have seen this film. The music is very calming, each track is different in it's own way. Most people who enjoy the fields of trance, drum and bass, techno will usually like ambient music. I'm a fan of all that, trip-hop too. But I am very satisfied (even though it didn't include Fatboy Slim's "Song No. 6") with the entire soundtrack being ambient music. It's pure chill music, future-esque as well. See the movie, you'll understand what I mean.

thanks to whomever stated the artist and song title of maria's dancing debut in the club!!!!! i have seriously spent the longest time trying to figure out who it was.
every song that opened a scene in code 46 never ceased to amaze me. free association is awesome. the soundtrack kind of reminded me of mogwai (and that's a plus). code 46 is booooooooooooooOOmmb. this movie came out before eternal sunshine...but i still love michel gondry yo...!

Excellent ambient mood-piece.,

The opening title track "Shanghai" wraps you with a feeling of loneliness and futuristic wonder. Much like, in my experience, the city itself. Yet there's something strangely uplifting and intriguing...there aren't any hard hitting baselines, just steady, non-abrasive, ambient rythms, punctuated with occassional interesting (and difficult to name) instruments and samples.
For the movie, it was perfect, and gets 5 stars as a background. For ambient listening, it's darn good. Free Association is comprised of ex-DJ-turned-film-composer David Holmes (Out of Sight, Ocean's Eleven) and Steve Hilton. Together the two have fused an exotic ambient score with enough "there" to stand on its own. I'll play it when I want to hear music, but also want to be able to think or write. I hope you enjoy, Christian Hunter Santa Barbara, California

Lost in Translation,

If you liked "Lost in Translation" with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, you'll like this movie/soundtrack. The sweeping visuals of Shanghai and Hong Kong, coupled with the dreamy ambient music, share some of the same "travel" vibe in the scenes of the Tokyo cityscape. Both soundtracks are great for listening while slogging through airplanes and airports on long trips - keeps me sane, and adds a little taste of adventure to it.

It was hard for me to decide whether I officially "like" this kindda music, first of all, this album make u feel like the whole cd is playing one track, which all 12 tracks contains very similar tones, which is kindda struggle for me if I willspend 14 bucks to listen to one kinndda track. But after listening to the sample of "shanhai", I decided to take my risk. It was a good track. the tone is very futuristic and dreamy feeling. But also very cold and a little over simplistic, and a little "pinky".. dun even ask me what that suppose to mean.
