Riveting, honest portrayal of life in America, July 23, 1999

This review is from: Code Blue: Urgent Care for the American Youth Emergency (Paperback)
Although sociologists and the media report extensively on violence among children and teenagers, and the proliferation of gangs, little is said about the effect the decline in morality and lack of spirituality have contributed to this problem--until now. Nicky Cruz tells us that it is not only sociological, political and institutional issues that are responsible, but a "corruption of the heart." My only criticism is that at one point, when he compares gangs from the 1950s to today's, it appears that he romanticizes that the old gangs were somehow more loyal... honorable." In addition, he tends to be a bit exclamatory in his dialogue, but given his passion, it is understandable. Otherwise, if you really want to know why children are so violent, why children kill, read this!
