Vivid story, excellent storytelling, August 4, 2005
This review is from: Code Of Honor (Hqn Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Having never read a novel by Catherine Mann, and having had a recent streak of rotten luck trying unfamiliar authors, I was hesitant to read Mann's Code of Honor. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I came to care for Mann's main characters. Even better, her narrative was so vivid I had little trouble picturing the events unfolding in my mind. Her knowledge of the military way of life and its equipment added realism to her story that many authors would have been able to pull off as well. No unending techno-babble to prove research was done, just enough detail to get the point across and add to the plot - not distract from it. The complex friendship between main characters Joe Greco and Brigid Wheeler keeps you turning the page as they sort through their feelings for each other, their past, a dangerous mission and a heartbreaking betrayal. If you enjoy a good, romantic page-turner, I recommend Catherine Mann's Code of Honor. I'm now looking forward to reading other novels she's written!

Complex romantic duo, August 7, 2007
This review is from: Code Of Honor (Hqn Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Air Force Pilot Joe Greco has nursed a crush on his best friend's girlfriend Brigid since he first laid eyes on her. Cooper Scott is a Green Beret on a mission in Iraq when his squad is ambushed. Piloting the rescue helicopter with photojournalist Brigid in the back documenting the action, Joe is horrified when he has to abandon his mission and later learns his best friend has died, along with the rest of his team. Mourning Cooper for two years, he has always been a shoulder and sense of strength for Brigid. But Brigid's feelings are starting to change, and when she offers to be his boinking buddy, Joe is at first shocked, but willing to take any scrap he can get. Spiriting her away to Cortina, a small South American country with a drug problem and ties to the terrorists responsible for Cooper's death, he wants her to document the action. Their stint as lovers lead to deeper emotions, but what'll happen to the new relationship when they learn that Cooper was not killed after all, and he's been living a covert life that's about to collide with theirs?
Mann has a gift for military storytelling, often providing a little too much realism and detail. Joe is probably one of her greatest heroes - he's not over the top like a superhero - he's human and emotional and has plenty of demons. The relationship between the two is complex and the chemistry is sizzling. Cooper gets his own romance as a secondary storyline, though I would have preferred to have kept it to one couple. Mann often has numerous couples in her storyline, taking away from the primary storyline.

A suspenseful and irresistible love story, August 7, 2005
This review is from: Code Of Honor (Hqn Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
In the first book of the new series by Catherine Mann, she tells about those brave individuals who fly missions for the Air Force Special Ops. With Ms. Mann's insight of those who serve our country, she has once again created a set of beloved characters who will find a place in your heart. The story is tension-filled, whether from the real danger surrounding the hero and heroine or from the chaotic state of their emotions. With the very believable storyline where hints were given about what could happen next, I kept hoping for a miracle. In CODE OF HONOR, all my expectations were met and then some, in this unforgettable romantic adventure.
When you want to read an irresistible love story combined with intriguing suspense in a military setting, then the books by Catherine Mann are second to none. Her characters are written with a deepness, which makes them seem like real men and women who must make life and death decisions while serving their country. Brigid, Joe and Cooper were close friends, and they are all struggling with demons which have haunted them for the past two years. For any of them to find real happiness, they will have to look within their hearts and acknowledge their unspoken feelings. With the threat of danger never far from any of the characters, the continuous conflicts they encounter kept my own heart racing. CODE OF HONOR is a love story about trust and forgiveness, where passions are fiery and the action is constant, and will stay in your mind long after the book is finished.
