Book Description

Dr. Leigh Stathos likes her ER shifts fast, furious, and adrenaline-infused—“Treat ’em and street ’em”—with no emotional complications. Life’s taught her a soul-rending lesson: nothing lasts forever, including marriage. And the clock is ticking toward the end of hers. Then an unwelcome confrontation with “the other woman” begins a whole new set of lessons.
San Francisco police officer Nick Stathos never gives up, whether protecting his patrol neighborhood, holding fast to faith—or trying to save his marriage. Seven days is all he has to reach Leigh’s heart. But when a desperate act of violence slams Golden Gate Mercy Hospital into lockdown, it starts a chain of events that will change lives forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars People Living Life Behind The Scenes of Mercy Hospital November 7, 2010
By Grapes
Candace Calvert's Code Triage novel is one of the best Christian fiction books I have read in a long time. It is impossible to list what is not in this book because I felt it was chock full of almost every important issue our society faces today. The most important issue for me in the book is the fact that Main street, America are definitely inhabited by people who are not having their desires met in the way they wish. Sadly, these people become impatient and angry. It is not long before this anger becomes rage. Leigh Stathos, a doctor, in one day faces an out of control man who is a father and husband. Kurt Denton wants his family back with him. He does not care how it happens. The unexpected, horrible situation is one I've seen too often on the news lately. I felt very happy to read about it in the genre called Christian fiction. After such terrible circumstances it is possible to regroup and repeat again "Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.-Psalm 136:26.

This book made me think about the people who put their lives in danger to save the public everyday. They protect strangers. Strangers who are sometimes in such a hurry there is no time to smile, say hello or acknowledge in any way. Cappy, the security guard, who works on hospital floors is one of the people who sacrifices his life daily. He cares deeply about what he is doing to help people. Nick, Leigh's soon not to be husband, is a policeman who gives his heart and soul to save other people like Kristi, a single mother, who is trying very hard to set the right priorities in her life because she loves her children. It is not easy for her. Then, there is Riley, the chaplain in the hospital.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Read! December 4, 2010
Candace Calvert is a new author to me so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm definitely glad I gave this one a chance. This is a good book that covers a number of issues in society today. The book's main character, Dr. Leigh Stathos is an ER doctor in San Francisco. She loves working in the ER because there are no attachments necessary. Leigh is married to a SF cop, Nick but their marriage is under serious strain.

I was interested in the medical background in the book since medical fiction is a favorite genre of mine. Calvert didn't disappoint. The medical elements in the book were realistic and well-placed to keep the book moving but not overdone to where non-medical fans would be turned off. I also appreciated the character development in this book. Each of the characters had personalities that you could easily identify with. They weren't "perfect" and had flaws just like regular people. I alternated between being annoyed with Leigh and identifying with her struggles.

I really appreciated the way Calvert addressed issues like violence, children with special needs, and struggles with marriage. These are real-world issues that face regular people. It was nice to see them portrayed in a novel in a thoughtful way. I also appreciated that while this was a Christian fiction novel, it wasn't your syrupy-sweet, everything's perfect novel. There were real issues faced by real people. I will definitely be looking for the other books in this series.

Tyndale House provided me a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trilogy ends October 23, 2010
Candace Calvert's medical dramas need to carry a health warning ~ heart palpitations and emotional repercussions imminent! Code Triage is no exception oozing emotional heartache, relationship angst and the non stop drama to rival an ER on high alert. Leigh and Nick, introduced in Disaster Status, take centre stage in Code Triage as Leigh attempts to move on from her marriage at the same time Nick determines to repair the potentially irreparable damage his behaviour has caused. Delving deep into her characters' frailties and pain, Candace peels back the layers of a disintegrating marriage to reveal the choices and attitudes that played such a part in Nick and Leigh stepping away from their marriage vows. Once again, Candace writes authentically and with heart, not shying away from the deep implications of infidelity or providing a pat and hasty resolution. Code Triage is satisfying in every way and is a wonderful conclusion to her Mercy Hospital trilogy. Next novel stat! I received this book from the publisher for the purposes of review, favourable or otherwise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Calvert Is Dependable July 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Another good read from Candace Calvert. I have a thing for "married loved stories." I love to read about couples who fall in love after they're married or fall in love again after dealing with marital problems. Although all of Calvert's books take a hard look at life issues, this one feels the weightiest of the trilogy, probably because the central relationship has the most baggage. As always, Calvert is entirely dependable in her presentation of likable but flawed characters, strong themes, and exciting and accurate medical adventures. Fun to see all the characters from the previous books reunited in the epilogue too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read! October 11, 2010
I have never read a book by Candace Calvery before, but the third book in the Mercy Hospital series is great! With a mixture of suspense, action, and a heart-felt story about a marriage that a man wants so desperately to save after he hurt his wife. Reminded me of the movie Fireproof, except with a whole different story and plot - it was great!

After Nick Stathos sends his marriage towards divorce when he has an affair with his deceased best friends sister, he wakes up to the sin he's commited and confesses it to his wife. Angry at him turning to another woman, Liegh is determind to file for divorce and leave Nick and Golden Gate Mercy Hospital - where she works as an ER doctor - behind. But after a lot of counsiling from his pastor, and asking the Lord's forgiveness for his failings, Nick wants to give his marriage another chance...he just needs to convince Liegh to also try again...

The events that take place in the ER were interesting to read - all the quick, life-changing decisions that Liegh needs to make in order to save a life. It was really neat to peep into the life of an ER doctor. And following Nick around on his missions of mercy to the Johnson family was touching.

There is one caution I would give - younger readers might not be ready for this book. Nick has an affair with another woman, and although this scene is done months before the book opens up, there is still talk of it, and other acts done by married couples within marriage. But for older teens and adults, it was a good story about being faithful in marriage.

Besides this, I enjoyed the book from cover to cover - finishing the book in one day! It was a great read and I am ure I will read it again very soon!

Thanks to Tyndale House Publishers for sending me a complimentary copy of this book. :-)
